Just been told I have conjunctivitus which is great as exams start soon, anyone have any ideas/methods as to help with this?

Been prescribed with with some "Golden Eye" drops which have started working well.

Sorry to hear you have this mcadam...I had it as a child and it was really uncomfortable. Don't know if the doc told you but it is highly contagious. You can easily spread it from one eye to the next if you only have it in the one eye, so don't play with yourself *grins*. Also don't shake hands with anyone or they will get it too if they play with themselves.

The Golden Eye stuff is good...stick with it (excuse the pun). You could get some eye wash and use that if you want...make sure you wash the eye bath well between uses if cleaning both eyes.

Hope you get rid of this real soon.

I never had it but a while back one of my cats had it in one eye...a few days later both his eyes were infected...then a few days after that the cat he would play with got it in both eyes.Levs right...its highly contagious. The vet told us to wash our hands...smother the soap all over our hands and arms for at least 60 seconds after putting medication in their eyes since we could catch it!They didnt get the same medication you have but whatever it was after a few days you could see a difference...even tho their eyes looked good as new after a week the vet said to continue medication for 2 weeks because the eyes may look good but it could still be there. We did and 3 weeks later one of them got it back again...sheesh...You really have to be careful as you can get it back! Its not fun.

I really dont know anything helpful that could help you...Someone I know would wear sunglasses or the clear lens glasses so she wouldnt rub her eyes.Rinse your eyes out well..the less crud you have in and around your eyes the easier it is to keep your hands off them! Good Luck! :)

    hehe

Sorry to hear that McA, you are doing the correct thing an seeing your doctor again, I know that the symptoms are normally worse in the morning but as you seemed to be getting better, it needs checking out... as left it could turn into keratitis or even changes in the atmosphere can irritate ( dont know if you suffer from hayfever etc )

might even be worth if your GP advises going to local hospital and seeking advice from an Ophthalmologist ( they are the eye specialists ) if it continues.

    hope you feel better soon.

Thanks Halo, didn't exactly go see the doctor, but mum rang up and they said go to the chemist and got stuff, they reckoned it was hay fever related. Have taken some tablets and drops, can't remember names, and the left eye has gone down loads and right is improving lots!

As was said, eye drops are the go for treatment of conjunctivitis. As to what kind of eye drops, that depends on what has caused the conjunctivitis. If it's an infection, then antibiotic eye drops are required, for allergies, more like antihistamine drops and/or tablets to reduce the inflammations. Allergies and hypersensitivity are probably the most common cause.

I have chronic industrial conjunctivitis that cannot be cured, only treated.:( But that was from toxic fume contact. I'm also pretty sensitive to pollens and pollution, so it's a double curse in my case.

In any event, you should wash your eyes out with warm water, being careful not to spread it to both eyes, and apply the eye drops every four hours or so, or as per medication/doctor's instructions.

And follow the schedule exactly until the doctors tell you to quit, not just until they feel OK. We frequently quit treating infections too soon, before they're completely irradicated, allowing it to flare up again.
