Connect PC to HDTV

I have a Dell Dimension 2350 PC with an on-board video. I want to connect my PC to an HDTV. Dell tells me I can not install a PCI video card. Is there any way I can connect my PC to an HDTV???

 

unfortunately, your Motherboard does not have an Accelerated Graphics Port (AGP), which is used for any decent video card. You COULD install a PCI graphics card (so long as one of your original 3 PCI slots is still available), however their performance would hardly be an improvement over your onboard graphics.

What kind of inputs are available on your HDTV? If it has DVI or HDMI input, you would need a DVI port on your video card. For example, this PCI nvidia FX5500 card has DVI. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814145055

it should work, but its a shame to spend that much money on something that would not transfer to your next computer, as it is terribly outdated.

 

Thanks for the reply. The HDTV has HDMI inputs. I checked out the card you suggested, it will not fit the slots on my system....

 

Why did they tell you you cant have a PCI card? your motherboard has 3 PCI slots.

Unless I am missing something (small case, already using 3 PCI slots... etc), the card will indeed fit.

 

I's a PCI card. It will fit in one of the three PCI slots, unless you have them filled. You can get a DVI to HDMI adapter cable. A DVI cable carries a digital video signal only while a HDMI cable can carry the same digital video signal in addition to a seperate audio signal. You will need to run a seperate audio input cable from your PC to the TV or home theater receiver.
