Connecting to and navigating websites slow down after update

After yesterday's update to Avast, every single site I visit takes forever to connect to and navigate.

I'm not sure if the update is affecting anything or not, but that was the most recent event I recall when I first noticed the slow down.

Also, it seems (like Yahoo for instance) that the longer I stay in a site, the easier it becomes to navigate.

I had a helluva time logging in here, and checking the posts.

Now, it seems that things are moving a little faster. It's not that I'm repeating the same actions either.

I've done several different things. It seems that the more I do - the quicker things get.

Not sure what's going on - any suggestions?

BTW: Use Ccleaner, Clean Up, and Empty Temp folder all the time - including during these times

I had to go to work right after posting this, so this morning I was able to put a little time into troubleshooting.

    The problem is Avast related.

I'm pretty sure that the old version of Avast had only 6 tasks available.

Normally, I had 5 out of 6 running - I believe Outlook/Exchange was (and still is) the only non-running task.

After the recent update, I had severe slow down. I have also noticed 7 tasks are available.

I never really checked the program before, but it is apparent that something was added.

After pausing each one,and then turning them on one by one - I discovered that "Web Sheild" is the problem.

I'm not certain if this is a new feature or what, but currently - it slows down everything.

I have it paused, but I want to keep up my protection. It has a customize feature, but I know very little about these things.

Can anyone make any suggestions about what to customize from the following options:

1: Basic - Enable Web Scanning and Use Intellegent strem scanning (both are currently checked). Option available for setting up Transparent scanning (only redirected HTTP ports has a value - "Ignored adresses" is blank). Lastly, Ignore local communication is checked.

2: Web Scanning - Scan all files is checked (other option is: scan files of certain type. A box is available for:a. Scan files with these extensions,b. and files with the following MIME-types.

3: Exceptions - area for URLs and MIME types to exclude.

4: URL Blocking - area is currently unchecked with a space available to input URLs

5: Advanced - Show detailed info on performed actions and Silent mode (both boxes are unchecked) BTW: Silent Mode says, "Abort connection if virus is detected".

I know that was alot to read, and I appreciate you suffering through it.

Any advice would be even more appreciated.

    Thanks,

    LAIGo
