connection problem

hey. I've got this problem thats been going on for quite a while now. It's that like every 5 minutes programs that need internet to use them (like AIM, MSN, DC++), just reconnect. I used to think that the modem was broken, but it didn't make any sense because for example, if MSN would reconnect, AIM would still be normal, and when AIM would reconnect, MSN would just be functioning properly, etc. So yesterday i scanned for virusses, spyware, everything, like 3 times in a row, and it appeared to be fixed. But now the problem just came back again. It's terribly frustrating.

i'm using windows 2000 professional btw

Take a look at your firewall logs if you are using one. You may have to tweek the allowed/disallowed options if that shows any signs of blocking.

Also, if you are using WinXP and have System Restore option enabled. many virus's are able to restore themselves after deletion when you reboot by using System Restore. Before any scanning. turn off that XP option...reboot..scan..remove virus/trojan..reboot..turn Restore back on.
