I when I start up my Win7 PC it connects automatically. I forget exactly what I did but my ISP talked me through it over the phone...all the login info is stored permanently in the modem...so the PC just automatically connects.

But when I leave the PC alone for a while, when I have to wake it from sleep, upon 'wake up' this dial up connection window appears...and if I try and browse the net before closing the connection window it's like the connection is blocked...as soon as I close the connection window the connection is back.

Any ideas on what is making this connection window appear? It's a minor nuisance until I have a long download to make....then the download always get interrupted.

I don't know what's causing the connection window pop-up but, if you're on dial-up and trying to download a large file, I suggest you download and install Internet Download Manager. It has the capability of resuming dropped/interrupted downloads and upon doing so, it has never corrupted a download in the 6+ years I've been using it. It's also the fastest of the download managers I've tried. You get a fully functional 30 day trial. After that. it's $24.95US/year and I think it's worth every penny.

Like is said I don't use a dial-up window to connect...I mean I'm still on DSL but it does it auto-matically. It may help to add that the info that comes pre-written in the window is my old login info from when I used to have to manually connect all the time. Like there are old setting conflicting with new ones....

Also, it only happens after the computer goes into sleep mode..so maybe there a setting there, I just don;t know were it is.

    robert707...

If you look in your Network Connections folder (not sure what it's called in W7), do you see more than one connection there? I used to have to connect on dial up on one computer here back several years ago and then, when I got the new net up, I seem to recall this same problem. Might be wrong about this, but I think I vaguely remember fixing this by deleting the dial up network connection in the Network Connections folder.

If you aren't comfortable deleting the connection (if there is an extra one), you could also disable it and accomplish the same thing I think...

Look in Internet Options > Connection tab, where I'm suspecting you will see your old dialup connection. Click Remove (you may have to highlight it first)
