    Hi.
I have this problem where every now and then my internet connection stops responding and when I try and open the connections icon in the system tray it won't open.
So I go to reboot and it says the connections tray is not responding. So I end the task then my computer crashes while trying to shutdown.
    Im running XP SP2.

Have any of you ever come accross this problem or have any ideas?
Im not a dumb ass (aprentice geek), don't have any virus's or spyware and did a search on google. A few people have this problem but no one on any board can figure it out.
So if you can give me any answers you are a legend.
    Thanks.

Yes! Yes! Someone out there with the exact same problem! I have been searching high and low and thought I was the only one til now.

My computer exhibits the same symptoms: Once in a while, after the computer has been on for a bit, all of a sudden no connection to the internet. When you try to restart, you get 'connections tray' error, or sometimes 'power meter' error, and the end program now thingy. So you end the program and then it hangs on the restart. If you wait like 4 or 5 or 6 minutes, then it may finally restart. Or not. All I know is, I am at my wits' end on this one, so Major Geeks are my last hope.:( Help?

My immediate reaction would be that you may have a corrupt Winsock file. Have you looked into that as a cause?

Ok, I'm listening! Now, how do I find this Winsock file, and what do I do to see if it is corrupted, and how do I replace/restore/fix it if it is?

You can find the utility here: WinSock XP Fix offers a last resort if your Internet connectivity has been corrupted due to invalid or removed registry entries. According to the Major Geeks description - "This tool is recommended for IT professionals only. Please read license."

XP TCP/IP Repair may also help you repair your TCP/IP registry settings and your Winsock LSP's. Be sure to read this warning prior to using XP TCP/IP Repair

Important Note: As a precaution make sure to Create a System Restore Point before you download and then install anything onto your computer. This will allow you to return your computer settings to the state your PC was in - prior to downloading
