    Hello all,

I am having major problems with my laptop (Sony Vaio VGN-NW130D) as of late. My original hard drive for it crashed on me and I found out that the disk is unreadable. So I did the natural step and upgraded to a solid state drive for more power. I bought myself an 'OCZ Solid 3 2.5" SSD' for myself.

I originally tried to install the recovery disk for the original laptop to see if that worked and after about 3 hours it installed vista. Unfortunately the installation failed so I was forced to use the spare windows 7 copy I had lying around. After a short 30 min period the initial installation completed and it commenced with the initial start up process. I was just at the point when I was entering my password when suddenly the screen froze and I got a stop error screen with the code 0x000000F4 which is the CRITICAL_OBJECT_TERMINATION.

Basically from what I can understand there is a problem with a hardware piece that just shut itself down which could be from faulty drivers. Seeing as this is a laptop with one slot for a hard drive I couldn't exactly install the driver. After MUCH patience and multiple re-installs later I was lucky enough to actually get to enter in the product key and get to a desktop...from where it crashed again. I found that I have anywhere from 30 seconds to 5 mins so far as I can see before it crashes (random lengths).

I have the recent firmware updates for the ssd but it doesn't support installing onto the same drive that is running windows. I am at a lose as to what I can do here. Best idea that I can have is try installing the firmware from ubuntu live cd but haven't gotten around to that yet. Any possible suggestions? Let me know if there is any addition information you may need.

    Cheers,
    Swordpower

P.S. The only bios settings that I can change are the internal clock and boot priority. (in case that is a suggestion)

Not sure what model OCZ you have; however the user reviews on NewEgg indicate many of their models have serious quality control and firmware issues:

The only SSD brand I trust based on reliability ratings is Intel. If you don't want to spend the extra bucks to dump the OCZ for an Intel, I'd drop back to traditional technology using a Western Digital Scorpio Black series 2.5" HDD - both user reviews and my experience indicate the Scorpio Black is the best quality traditional drive on the market.

After looking back at the NCIX reviews (where I bought it) I found that there was someone with the EXACT same problem as me. Basically someone spent an entire weekend trying to get it to work and failed. Here is the review:

I am just going to send it back, get my refund and get a new one cause it seems like way to much work to get working. Thank you for letting me know, I'll look into some Intel versions here now.

    +1 for Intel

If you look around OCZ is VERY problematic for SSD's

I've herd countless number of times OCZ is awesome! I'm getting very fast MB/sec and then a few days later. OCZ Sucks. My SSD failed.

Intel makes VERY reliable SSD's and are the best in the market IMO. They do not make the fastest SSD's but if you need it to be reliable go with Intel.

I had an issue if you look with an Intel SSD but it was caused due to a failing SATA controller on my motherboard.

I've had a Intel 320 120 GB SSD Since April 2011 and have not yet had a single issue. There was an issue where Intel 320 SSD's may be bricked but Intel released a firmware update to fix this.

you may want to look at http://ncix.com/products/?sku=59825&vpn=SSDSA2CW080G310&manufacture=Intel if you cant afford a bit more.
