    Hi All -

I discovered a corrupt file in my WINNT folder that (I believe) causes the system to constantly freeze up when first booting. Not responsive to mouse, keypad, typing or ctrl-alt-del. (However safe mode works OK.) Please see background on the system and fixes tried thus far with plodr before it was suggested my computer was infected. At this point I can't boot normally at all.

I've since gone through the READ & RUN ME and W2K cleaning procedure but no improvement. Here are what I believe to be the relevant details on my steps. Everything was done in safe mode.

    - SUPERAntiSpyware hangs up at C:\WINNT\SYSTEM32\ WBEM\WBEMCOMN.DLL. Clock continues to run but no further files are scanned.

    - Malwarebytes freezes (entirely) when scanning the C:\WINNT\system 32 folder. Goes for about 3-5 seconds, indicates 2 objects are infected, then freezes.

    - ComboFix runs OK.

    - RootRepeal runs OK.

    - MGTools runs OK.

Many thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

I'm sorry but you are having problems with Windows and your hardware not with malware. The Wireless Zero driver used for your wireless network interface is the cause of the "sample program not responding message". This service has been notorious for causing people problems in the past. And you are loading it to at startup for your wireless NIC:
You will have to work out the problems with this in your Software thread. Perhaps uninstall your hardware and drivers and then reinstalling may help.

I posted a quick note in your other thread too for informational purposes.

You're welcome. Once you finish resolving your problems, you should work thru the below cleanup.

Since you are not having malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. Unless you purchase them, they provide no protection. They do not use any significant amount of resources ( except a little disk space ) until you run a scan.
    2. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /uninstall
        • Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /uninstall, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.
    3. Go back to step 6 oof the READ ME and renable your Disk Emulation software with Defogger if you had disabled it.
    4. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    5. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    6. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    7. Goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders
related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    8. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:
