Constant Reoccurring Windows "pop-up" To Update

Widows 7---I'm not certain of other exact info. This is new, when I go to computer-->system properties, my system properties screen flashes for only a moment, then returns to my home screen. I also have a constant reoccurring Windows "pop-up" for system updates. When system restarts, I then get a message of "windows failed to install certain updates, reverting back . . . . " Never had this happen before, and I don't know how to fix it. Asking for help . . . .thx, Steve
