    Hello folks,
    I'm new here. So... hi.
I've got this windows 10 machine.

And for some reason, now, all my main folders (Documents, Pictures, Music, etc.) show up as empty.
Yet the right click/properties show them to be still filled with my files.
    They are not Hidden either.

I don't recall installing anything special or messing around in the active directory... and unfortunately, I <snip> did not do a backup.
Seriously. My business is in there.

Have you checked your C drive for errors?
If not, open an elevated command prompt and enter chkdsk /r c:
press enter and it will be scheduled to run at next boot time.
    Reboot.

Have you checked your Users Accounts?

  6. Charleslaf

    Charleslaf Private E-2

    Done with chkdsk.

    Didn't work.

Yes the Users Account seem to have vanished :\

    under C:/users there is Default.Migrated & Default.AppPool
    ...
    How can this be fixed?

The first thing is to run the System File Checker and make sure you read the link further down to generate a TEXT file of the report to your desktop:
    https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/help/4026529/windows-10-using-system-file-checker

If when that is finished if it has NOT resolved your problem then you are left with a full system RESET but choosing the option to RETAIN personal files:
Scroll down and see the section 'Reset your PC'
    https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/help/12415/windows-10-recovery-options

    Try this -

Right click the Win 10 Start icon and click on Windows Powershell (Admin)

    Type net user administrator:yes <Enter>

Reboot into the new Administrator account

Create a new User account for yourself

Find the user folders you were looking at the Properties of in post #1 (I just haven't the time to test this aspect and it may prove not to be possible). If you can locate those folders just copy their contents into your new user account and reboot into that account. Come back if no joy.

    Thanks
    No need to apologize.

    Hm.
    It's asking for a password.

    Password tried:
    Blank.
    admin
    my account pw

    :\ No success.

If the hidden admin account has previously been activated it will require the original password. In that situation you would not be able to use my suggestion.

  16. Charleslaf

I cant enter the account, it's asking for a pw

o_O it was a second hand PC.

    Darn it.

  18. Earthling

The first time you activate the hidden admin account it does not require a password. As it is asking for one it has previously been activated.

Maybe someone here will know how to crack it.

Malware sounds possible. Any reason not to reinstall 10?

How did you do the reset?

  23. Charleslaf

    Charleslaf Private E-2

    "reset this pc"

Once through the normal windows GUI.

Now I'm redoing it from the ... er... new adaptation of the windows 10 Safe Mode.

When you reboot and get to the log in screen, click on the circle with the line in it.

    The thing with

    Narrator
    Magnifier
    On-Screen Keyboard
    High Constrast
    StrickKeys
    Filter keys?!
    ???
I only have 3 click-on buttons: authentication for login, wireless and that which isdescribed above.

That's odd. Ok, log in....right click start, click settings, in the lower right, click on update and security. On the left will be recover. Click on that.

    Charleslaf Private E-2

  33. Charleslaf

    Charleslaf Private E-2

Yes, but I chose the option to Keep My Files.
    And ...
    They are still there
But I can't see them nor access them.
    As per the screenshot.

Did you create a new user account? If so, try right clicking documents, properties, security and click on your user account and try to give it full permissions.

    @Charleslaf

You don't need to use a website to post screenshots here.
You take a screenshot, use the inbuilt Paint to save it then just click on the 'upload file' icon at the bottom left of any post.
I can't see the ones you posted as that site probably requires a sign in or just doesn't work in my Firefox web browser. So it's unneeded and pointless doing it that way.
