continued: how to turn a Gigabyte motherboard's power ENTIRELY off

This is a continuation of a previous topic about turning off the computer and the power being still delivered to optical mouse, USB ports etc.

So, I've finally found some info on Gigabyte's site telling that this situation is a Gigabyte standard, as it helps recharge batteries, Ipods or whatever.

But I still want to turn this off.

Is it possible? Any ideas?

Sometimes there is a switch on the PSU itself that you can toggle on and off. Otherwise sorry, I never used that type of board before. If you are looking for another solution as simple as pushing a switch, also remember you can toggle the surge protector's power too.

 

Ok, I think I got it. It's a feature to turn on the pc with keyb/mouse. There are 2 jumper caps on the board. Find them in the manual. USB WAKE/POWER something like that. They're usually located in the top-right corner near the I/O plate & PSU.

 

On the BIOS on my motherboard there is the option to shut down to S1 mode or S3. As I understand it S1 is completely off and S3 leaves the USB ports etc on.

Do you have your motherboards manual? If not then I suggest downloading it from the Gigabyte website and seeing if these options are mentioned. I imagine the manual is also the place to look to see if the board uses jumpers for settings like these or if it's like mine and does everything in the BIOS.

 

Thanks a lot, unfortunately I tried all of it, including the different energy management states. Well, seems I'll have to turn the power off on the surge protector. Guess I'll get used to that. I think they should include an option to turn this off nevertheless.
