I've got one I can't seem to find an answer to. On occassion, I'll work on a computer that when you click on start, control panel, the panel opens in a vertical narrow, blue-grey background box, much the appearance of the start menu.

And of course there is no tool bar in this, no description of the CP programs, just the programs themselves.

And the other week I was cleaning a computer that the CP opened like this, UNLESS I opened it from a desktop shortcut, then the full and normal panel opened:confused

Can't say I've spent a lot of time sorting this out, as their is no performance impairment.

Is there some quick option to set that I'm missing?? :wave:wave

If I understand correctly, right click on task bar > select "Properties" > "Start Menu" tab > "Customize" button > "Advanced" tab. Look in the "Start menu items:" window. That what you're looking for?

    Plasti,

I'm not at the right computer now so I can't test, have only seen it on XP, I'm on Vista. I'll be on an XP machine later but I don't think this is it. On this
Vista, the only customization I can find where you pointed to is to display the CP as a link or menu, nothing about what the CP looks like when you open it.

It comes up a a narrow, verticle menu bar, looking very much like the start menu. I can't make it look this way, just occassionaly run into it and was wondering what I was possibly missing.

And as I said, on one computer it opened normally from a desktop shortcut and the other way from the start menu.:confused:confused

Humm...-o don't think I understand what you're trying to do. Is the attached thumbnail similar to what you're comming across? And you want to change it back to the CP opening up in a normal explorer window? If so, in the dialogue box of the "Customize Start Menu" window, just select the radio button for "Display as link". Selecting the "Display as a menu" will give what's in the thumbnail. Or am I drifting around in space again?
