Does anyone know of a good program I can get (or buy if its not too much) that will convert .avi videos to MPEG or VCD without losing the quality?

I've tried a couple of MPEG encoders including WinMPG...but the file loses SO much integrity:(

    any recommendations would be appreciated

here is a site I found that has a free program and also help links
http://www.vcdeasy.org/ I have made VCD's to play in my stand alone dvd player using other programs and the resolution is kinda lousy I believe the resolution for a VCD is 352x240

I am working on the same issue,.

right now I use TMPGEnc to convert to VCD compliant MPEG and then I use VCDeasy to actually put it on a CD...

Both Freeware and I did find it via

Keep us posted if you find something else Good

I forgot to add in the first post that I use EasyCD Creator's VCD Creator to make my VCD's, and it works great....for MPEG files that are already compatible.

So the problem still remains in either converting the avi's to MPEG, or straight to VCD...while retaining quiality.

Thanks for your posts, i will try those programs and see if its any imporvement from what I've been doing

I tried easy cd and also cyberlinks power director and when I convert to VCD it is always the same resolution 352x240. there is also another format called SVCD which is a higher resolution but not all stand alone dvd players will recognize that format. I have a toshiba stand alone dvd player and it is supposed to be able to read a SVCD but when I converted to that it wouldn't read it. I was reading something at one of the help links at the site i gave you about using Nero to burn a SVCD. I havent tried using Nero yet . Maybe that will do it for you.
