Converting Cda Files To Mp3 Files

Years ago one could "rip" music from a CD (cda files) using Windows Media Player and it would convert those files to MP3 files that you could then load into your MP3 player and listen to the tunes while walking.
No more.
How can I achieve that now? Running Win7 on my PC and using Philips Go Vibe MP3 player.

Since when?
If you're having a problem with WMP, just use FreeRIP.

I no longer use FreeRIP. I think MBAM complained about it when I tried to install it on my Win 7 desktop computer. (I have an old version of FreeRIP on my 2K computer but that needs a power supply so I can't even offer you an old copy). WMP v11 is set up on an offline XP computer and I used that to rip a CD. I ended up with WMA files which I converted to MP3 using VLC.

Sorry I don't have anything, as far as I can tell, set up to rip CDs on my Win 7 desktop computer. I'll search my USB sticks. I probably have FreeRIP archived somewhere.

Apparently VLC can do this but it sounds like it takes longer than with FreeRIP or WMP.

Thanks to Eldon, problem solved. In less time than it took to post my problem, downloaded FreeRIP, got it running, ripped the CD and copied the MP3 output to my Philips Vibe.
