Converting from FAT32 to NTFS

PC World magazine published an article, "PC Secrets," in their June, 2004 issue stating that if you upgraded to Windows XP from an earlier OS (I upgraded from ME), you can convert a FAT32 file system to NTFS. I checked Microsoft's web and found the same information in the article, which says to use the Command mode and type "convert c: /fs:ntfs" to get it converted.

That just seems too simple to be true.
Has any MajorGeeks Message Board reader done this?
Is it really that easy to do?
Are there any cautions I should be aware of?

    More info from MS:
    http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/using/itpro/managing/convertfat.asp
    http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;314097

You'll need a certain amount of free space on that partition:

Here is a good discussion about the process of convertion. They especially cover the problem of cluster sizes, which relates to how converting to NTFS from FAT32 may not be as efficient as a native NTFS format.

They have very detailed instructions and they have great links to MS's discussion of the differences in thefile systems.
