Converting to ISO

I'm in a good mood today because I updated the firmware to my TDK 440N dvd burner last night, and it will actually burn a dvd now! So, I'd like to start burning dvd's of my mpeg and avi files using my 2 year old burner and I was wondering where to start.

I downloaded a boxing match, and it turned out to be a dvd that somebody made so it burned easily using Nero. I just put the ISO and other files into the video TS folder, clicked burn, and 15 mins later I was watching the fight. I was wondering how I can make a dvd with my mpeg's and avi's in a similiar way. I don't necessarily need to make menus, but if I have 10 small mpegs on a dvd I'd like to be able to skip through them. Any advice?

Did your version of Nero come with NeroVision?

I don't think so. I've only seen SmartStart, Express, and regular Nero. I did get a message when I went to burn a dvd that said that I might need NeroVision for authoring something. Is that what I need to get to make ISO files? I know there were more than iso files that I put into the video TS folder, but that's the only one I can remember.

So stupid....just took another look and the files that make the dvd are iFo, vob, and bup. Does this help?

Try this. Make a Video_TS file and put the IFOs, VOBs, and BUPs in it. In Nero (Burning ROM or Express), select the DVD video option and add the Video_TS file to the project. You can burn them to a physical disc or to an ISO, which is an exact duplicate pf a physical disc's information that can be stored on a computer's hard drive and burned in the future.

Thanks for the advice. I think my confusion was confusing everyone else. Here's where I'm at.

I am able to burn a physical dvd when I download a package with the dvd files and add them to the Video_TS folder. What I am looking to do is take an mpeg file and turn it into a dvd. I was looking around and found a program called WinAVI that will do the file conversion. I converted the mpeg to dvd and ended up with vob files that I can burn onto a physical dvd and play in my dvd player.

I did a little research and found that the ifo files are information files for the dvd. The bup files are backups of those files. I'm assuming that this would be chapter and menu info that would appear when you author the dvd like you mentioned before. I found a program called GUIdvdauthor that I will have to take some time with later, but I think that will let me make chapters and menus. If you have any advice on an easier way to do this, please let me know. I'll also update this after I play with the GUIdvdauthor. Thanks!

Update. After using GUIdvdauthor, the dvd would play on the computer but not on my PS2. Found the Nero Vision Express program, and it converted mpegs and avi's, authored, and burned the dvd with the custom menus that I wanted. These dvd's play great. Thanks for the advice Just Playin.
