Cool "Toy"

For those of you that love tinkering with software, and Windows, (Isn't that why we're here?) Try M$ Virtual PC. Surprised it is not available here, but is available from several places as a 45 day fully functional trial. For those that don't know it creates a "copy" of your system and allows you to add another OS, and try different things that you may be unwilling to try on your "Sunday go to meeting" OS and worst comes to worst you crash to death a system that really doesn't exist. I use it, and I can tell you that there is a few heart stopping moments, the first time I used it and put a Windows 98SE OEM CD in the drive and it started to setup Windows 98SE, it got to the point where it wanted to format the harddrive and I let it, but like an idiot watched the C:\ drive where XP Pro lives hoping it wasn't erasing it! it didn't it formated it's Virtual Hard drive.
A few recomendations if you try this, be sure to allocate enough RAM to the Virtual PC or you will have a flashback of yesteryear watching it poke along. And there is something way cool about working a Windows 98 Desktop in a window on an XP Desktop! I have used it for Windows 98SE, Windows 2003 Server, Ubuntu 6.06 Desktop and Server Editions, and it is a great place to test out installs for nLite created CD's. It creates Virtual Hard Drives, Virtual CD/DVD drives, etc. Way cool to play with, read everything give it plenty of RAM and have fun with it!
