Ok, gonna go pickup some CompUSA brand Aluminum heatspreaders but, i wanted to know which would cool better... A copper heatspreader (i would have ot buy online for $15) OR an aluminum heatspreader (i can get at my local store for only $9.95)

As for brands, a heatspreader is a heatspreader... right?

Ive purchased CompUSA brand things before (my case and PSU) and they work fine.

NOTE : The copper heatspreader would be from ThermalTake.

Copper Tends to absorb heat better than aluminum, most of your good cpu heatsinks use a copper core and a aluminum base. The reason for this is that the copper is heavier and more expensive. The more highend heatsinks use all copper.

So is it worth the extra 6 bucks + shipping and tax? or would it be better just to spend 10 bucks on aluminum?

As I know you like to get the most out of your PC, I wouldnt be suprised that you would be more happy with copper over alu, as jamcgriff said copper is a very good conductor of heat.

only you can make the final decision as its your $$$

Copper is heavier and shiny :)the thermalright xp-90 is made in copper and aluminium "exact replica",the copper one keeps the cpu 1-3 degrees c cooler in all the tests I have seen.

To be honest though i dont think you will be able to push your ram any further at all,as you said in your other thread the memory was barely warm to the touch after 2 hours of bf2 "And thats was probably from the other components in your case",heatspreaders could absorb more heat and make things worst.

Memory performance is due more to its quality than its temperature,I think that $10 could be better spend on a higher output case fan.

    JMHO :)

I OC'd it to 2.5-3-3-6 and it runs stable as of now, also bumped my CPU up to 2.1GHz and its only at 39C!!! :) Since ive got my Tt copper RAMsinks on my vid ram, i have my vid card OC'd to 574 core and 328 mem. Yay! Brought my 3dmark05 score up to 2k! yay!

As for a heatspreader, I am able to pick up the Tt copper heatspreader for only 9.99 at my local PCClub :)

Hrm.. I upped the voltage to 2.7 from 2.6... (or maybe it was 2.8 from 2.7?) Anyways, as for getting some copper heatspreaders... I will probably get them (for looks and maybe for some performance)

Before upping the voltage everest said i ran at PC2800, now with the upped voltage it says PC2900.

Interesting... Well, now that i have my ram at 2.5-3-3-5 @ 2.7v it gets pretty warm, after 4 hours of continuous counterstrike it was actually hot. And my CPU was in the low 40C's

Well, let's put it this way: Copper has a thermal conductivity that is nearly 1.9 times that of aluminum. It'll suck away the heat that much faster. If you want the numbers, they're here.

Cu likes to soak it up, Al likes to shed it - so AlCu is the best of both worlds.

Copper.......maybe copper base and AI fins if your going for looks.... ( copper tends to tarnish and look bad over time..)
