Copy complete programs

I am trying to copy some programs from one computer to another, is there any software out there that will do this? Running XP.

 

As you are using XP, you might try the Files and Settings Transfer Wizard. This is located in Accessories, under System Tools. Hope this helps!

 

To run an application on the 'other" computer, it must be installed onto that machine. Each system is different, and only those "stand-alone" applications such as are made for running from a flash stick will work without installation. Full Registry entries must be made for the program, and only installation will do that.

1101Doc hit it on the head.... when a program is installed, it creates its own reg entries, .dll files, and such, and spreads them through-out the OS in multiple locations, making any attempt to copy them (once installed) next to impossible. If you're the most patient person on the planet, you could probably run something like FileMon and Reg Mon, minimize 'em, then launch the program you want to copy. Then go back thru the logs for Reg/FileMon, make a list of the dependent files (.dll's, .exe's, .inf's, etc) and make a list of the registry keys accessed, then copy the whole mess over to a CD or something. You'd have to put the files on the 2nd PC in the exact same places so you'd need to have recorded the EXACT paths and keys.... in other words, a major league PITA!!!!!
