copying files between two external hard drives: how much is too much at once?

    Hi,

I'm looking to backup over 600 GB of files from one external hard drive to another, and am using an application called FreeFileSync.
Both external drives are USB 2.0.
Is there a danger in damaging the drives by transferring all files at once(maybe 13 hours+)? Should I pause the transfer every so often?

No reason to have to pause the transfer or do it in chunks.

I've wonder that too, but I have copied 500+ GB to and fro & one time had a drive qiut in the process, but I still do it & haven't lost another drive yet. The drive I lost was a little USB hard drive from Iomega - which they replaced.
If your not really syncing the drives (coping back and forth) only coping data to the drive I'd use robocopy, seems faster that Windows copy.
