My wife and I went to Acapulco to her parent's. I ran out of memory from my cameras. I borrowed a Laptop and I think that's how I caught this bug Copyright Violation Alert. I use Windows XP Home sp3. After a few tries I could restart in Safe Mode and run some utilities but nothing helped. While my computer was being scaned, started and restarted, I googled the bug and downloaded some utilities to my laptop Windows Vista home which after copying some files to my memory cards and flash drives also got infected but without the Copyright Violation Alert browser. I followed a thread in Bleepingcomputer but it did not do anything. So I folowed a thread in this forum and here is my result. I don't know where I put the log file from SAS, I skipped that one. I hope someone can look @ this and let me know if my system still has rootkit activity or it's finally clean. About the infection in my laptop I will post the details in a separate thread.

Your log should be in the below folder. Please attach it.

    C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Application Data\SUPERAntiSpyware.com\SUPERAntiSpyware\Logs

You had a lot of malware on this PC. Let's finish off a few more issues and then repeat a scan with Malwarebytes just to be safe. ;)

First see this linkUsing MGtools and apply the fix given for Error Message Type 1

Uninstall the below old versions of software:
    Spybot - Search & Destroy 1.4

Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator). This is really HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:

    O2 - BHO: Java(tm) Plug-In 2 SSV Helper - {DBC80044-A445-435b-BC74-9C25C1C588A9} - C:\Program Files\Java\jre6\bin\jp2ssv.dll (file missing)
    O23 - Service: Symantec Core LC - Unknown owner - C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\CCPD-LC\symlcsvc.exe (file missing)

    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.

Now we need to use ComboFix to remove a bunch of malware files.
    • Make sure that combofix.exe that you downloaded while doing the READ & RUN ME is on your Desktop but Do not run it!
      • If it is not on your Desktop, the below will not work.
    • Also make sure you have shut down all protection software (antivirus, antispyware...etc) or they may get in the way of allowing ComboFix to run properly.
    • If ComboFix tells you it has expired or need to be updated to a new version, make sure you allow it to update.
    • Open Notepad and copy/paste the text in the below quote box into it:
    • Save the above as CFscript.txt and make sure you save it to the same location (should be on your Desktop) as ComboFix.exe
    • At this point, you MUST EXIT ALL BROWSERS NOW before continuing!
    • You should have both the ComboFix.exe and CFScript.txt icons on your Desktop.
    • Now use your mouse to drag CFscript.txt on top of ComboFix.exe
    • Follow the prompts.
    • When it finishes, a log will be produced named c:\combofix.txt
    • I will ask for this log below
    Note:

Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

Now run Malwarebytes and first make sure you update it. Then run a new scan and attach the new log.

Now run Ccleaner. Only use the Run Cleaner button. Do not run anything else on any other forms.

Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator).

    Then attach the below logs:
    • C:\ComboFix.txt
    • the new Malwarebytes log
    • C:\MGlogs.zip
Make sure you tell me how things are working now!

Here's the log from SAS. I think the first time I ran it I was in safe mode from Administrator acct. It was there in the folder you specified.

Spybot S&D cannot be uninstalled from "Control Panel>Add or Remove programs" It gives me this error

File "C:\Program Files\ Spybot - Search & Destroy\unins000.dat" does not exist. Cannot uninstall.

I went to that location and tried to run uninstall.exe but it gave the same error. I went to safe mode administrator acct and got the same result. I cannot uninstall it. I am going to follow the advice you kindly gave me anyways.

    Thanks for your help

    How are things working?

After I first followed the procedures in this forum my computer came back to almost normal. Today I found several e-mail delivery failure in my inbox. I assume this nasty got all my contacts e-mail addresses and delivered itself to them. I hope they don't hate me for that.

I have one question though. There was a software called Power ISO in my system which I didn't ever use, I think it was causing the folder "My Computer" to read drives Floppy (A) Local Disk (C) but there were 4 CD ROMs when I only have 2. Those were read as CDs "D" "E" "F" and "G". When I ran into this whole ordeal, I uninstalled several software that I deemed unecessary (Including S&D). I learned that Power ISO creates virtual drives and thought that after removed my CD and DVD ROM would be read again as "D" and "E" but now when I open the "My Computer" folder even though there are no more virtual drives, my real CD and DVD roms are still read as "F" and "G". So I open "My Computer" and get: 3 1/2 Floppy (A) Local Disk (C) DVD-RW Drive (F) and DVD/CD-RW Drive (F) Note there is no drives "D:" or "E:" as there should. I went into my BIOS to try and reset them but I could not find that as an option. I did not mentioned this becasue I was trying to kill the bugs first but I would apreciate any comments you have about it.
    Here are the logs

Please post non-malware question in the appropriate forum. Like this one could be posted in the Software Forum.

You could try using Revo Uninstaller to see if it can remove the old Spybot.

    Your logs are clean.

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. Unless you purchase them, they provide no protection. They do not use any significant amount of resources ( except a little disk space ) until you run a scan.
    2. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /uninstall
        • Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /uninstall, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.
    3. Go back to step 6 oof the READ ME and renable your Disk Emulation software with Defogger if you had disabled it.
    4. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    5. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    6. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    7. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    8. Goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders
related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    9. If you are running Win 7, Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning procedures pointed to by step 7 of the READ ME
for your Window version and see the instructions to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    10. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:
