I know this has been covered many times before, but I just can't get rid of the thing myself.

After running a SpyBot S&D i get the message:
Smitfraud-C.CoreService: [SBI $9C656B9A] Data (File, nothing done)
    C:\Windows\System32\drivers\core.cache.dsk

As per usual every time I delete this file in safe mode it comes back after a reboot.

I tried to run 'SmitfraudFix' program but kept getting access denied errors and no log files were created.

    Any help is greatly appriciated.

    Welcome to Major Geeks!

First please disable Spybot's TeaTimer as requested in the READ & RUN ME
    • Run Spybot and click Mode
    • Select Advanced Mode.
    • Then click Tools and select Resident.
    • Now in the right window pane, uncheck TeaTimer.
    • Also while this is open, in the left column now select IE Tweaks
    • and then in the right pane make sure all the Miscellaneous locks are unchecked.
    • Now quit Spybot!
Now you need to disable UAC as instructed in the READ ME instructions for Vista. You need to leave it disable while cleaning your PC or we may have problems running certain tools. After disabling UAC, you must reboot for it to take effect. Ignore the message in the tray about being disabled.

Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by right clicking and selection run as Administrator. This is really HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [QuickTime Task] "C:\Program Files\QuickTime\QTTask.exe" -atboottime
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SunJavaUpdateSched] "C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.6.0_04\bin\jusched.exe"

    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.

Now we need to use ComboFix to remove a bunch of malware files.
    • Make sure that combofix.exe that you downloaded while doing the READ & RUN ME is on your Desktop but Do not run it!
      • If it is not on your Desktop, the below will not work.
    • Open Notepad and copy/paste the text in the below code box into it (make sure you scroll all the way down in the code box to get all lines selected ):
    Code:
    Driver::
    drmkk
    mupp

    Files::
    C:\Windows\System32\drivers\core.cache.dsk
    C:\Windows\System32\drivers\drmkk.sys
    C:\Windows\System32\drivers\mupp.sys

    • Save the above as CFscript.txt and make sure you save it to the same location (should be on your Desktop) as ComboFix.exe
    • At this point, you MUST EXIT ALL BROWSERS NOW before continuing!
    • You should have both the ComboFix.exe and CFScript.txt icons on your Desktop.
    • Now use your mouse to drag CFscript.txt on top of ComboFix.exe
    • Follow the prompts.
    • When it finishes, a log will be produced named c:\combofix.txt
    • I will ask for this log below
    Note:

Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

    Now run Ccleaner!

Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it.

    Then attach the below logs:
    • C:\ComboFix.txt
    • C:\MGlogs.zip
Make sure you tell me how things are working now!

    Thanks for the info!

I followed all your steps to the letter, but so some reason combofix just would'nt follow the script you provided and wouldn't delete the files. After multiple attemps I booted in safe mode and deleted the 3 files manually.

The proplem seems to be fixed for now and 'core.cache.dsk' is no longer present. Have attached the logs anyway, but they probably won't reflect the manual deletion of files.

Thanks again for all your help.

You need to attach the new MGlogs.zip file that was requested.
