I see you've helped others with this problem, so I'm hoping you can help me too :/

I first started having problems at 12:45am Friday night/Saturday morning. It was some celebrity blog site I clicked to while looking for pictures of a particular male model (I don't recommend pursuing any interest in Tyson Paige atm!! :p) I certainly didn't accept any cookies, but popups started flying - from IE, though I was surfing with FireFox - and errors started popping up that stuff wasn't installing correctly. Yeah, that was a small clue. I made AVG and SpyBot and Ad-Aware all run that night before bed, but they weren't fixing the problem.

Yesterday morning I determined that core.cache.dsk was at least one problem that wasn't getting fixed, despite the programs telling me they were handling it every time they ran. Then I looked it up online and found this forum.

I'm posting here from my mother's laptop, because any time I reboot my computer or get online with it, it seems to undo any progress at all I've made with the mess. At the very least, rebooting pulls up DOS-looking windows and every time I get online the various malware programs re-find the same stuff again, and sometimes more of it, along with all the popups.

I did uninstall my versions of all the programs and reinstall the updated ones from your site to run as you instructed. I am slightly worried, though, that even though I did select the AVG Anti-Spyware option for reports every time - even if no threats are found - (I'll give you screencaps to prove it if you want >_>) the Reports tab tells me there are none. I hope I did everything else right.

You have no Java installed and you are running with only Service Pack 1...you will need to download SP2 when we are sure you are clean and then install the most recent Java.

If you haven't already, please disable the Guest account in User accounts.

Please use add/remove programs to uninstall:
    Viewpoint Manager (Remove Only)"
    Viewpoint Media Player"
    "Viewpoint Toolbar

Please disable all anti-virus and anti-spyware programs while we do the following (re-enable when you are finished):

Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it. This is really HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:
    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.

Now Copy the bold text below to notepad. Save it as fixME.reg to your desktop. Be sure the "Save as" type is set to "all files" Once you have saved it double click it and allow it to merge with the registry.
Now download The Avenger by Swandog469, and save it to your Desktop.

    * Extract avenger.exe from the Zip file and save it to your desktop
    * Run avenger.exe by double-clicking on it.
    * Check the 'Input script manually' box.
    * Click on the magnifying glass icon.
    * Copy everything in the Quote box below, and paste it in the box that opens:

    * Now click the 'Done' button.
    * Click on the traffic light icon and OK the prompt.
    * You will be prompted to restart, OK the prompt and your PC should reboot, if not, reboot it yourself.
    * A log file from Avenger will be produced at C:\avenger.txt

Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it. Then attach the new C:\MGlogs.zip file that will be created by running this and also attach the log from Avenger.

Be sure to tell us how things are running.

Oops, yeah. I was doing the step by step instructions and deleted my old Java before responding... but I didn't want my computer online so I copied the Sun Java onto a cd for it, then promptly forgot to install it amidst all the scanning.

To ask a very stupid question, I'm sure: It says it's "off" and the only options are to turn it on or cancel. It's disabled then, right? I hope.

Avenger looks like some things failed and I still see the core.cache.dsk (though the date on it is today, so I assume it just got deleted and put back) so I didn't reconnect to the internet to test performance. My mom doesn't want that computer on the wireless while I'm using her laptop for the communication.

Thanks, I really appreciate your time. Without your help I know I'd end up just reformatting, which would be horrible... so I'm trying to be patient. I haven't been able to game for 2 days and I'm out of books to keep me occupied! lol. So addicted

Copy and paste ALL the following text in the quote box below into Notepad.
Click on File(in the menu at the top)>Save as../Save as Type: 'All Files' /File name: CFScript to your desktop.
Now drag then drop the CFScript file onto ComboFix.exe

    This will start ComboFix again.
After reboot, (in case it asks to reboot), post the contents of Combofix.txt in your next reply along with a new MGLogs.zip

The reboot didn't pop up random DOS-like windows and I don't see the core.cache.dsk, so hopefully we're on the right track now :major

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:

    1. If we used Pocket Killbox during your cleanup, do the below
    * Run Pocket Killbox and select File, Cleanup, Delete All Backups
    2. If we used ComboFix, you can delete the ComboFix.exe file, C:\ComboFix folder, C:\QooBox folder, C:\WINDOWS\nircmd.exe, C:\combofix.txt and C:\ComboFix-quarantined-files.txt logs that was created.
    3. If we user SDFix you can delete all the SDFix related files and folders from your Desktop or whereever you installed it.
    4. If we used SmitFraudFix, you can delete all files and folders related to it now including the c:\rapport.txt log.
    5. If we used VundoFix, you can delete the VundoFix.exe file and the C:\VundoFix Backups folder and C:\vundofix.txt log that was created.
    6. If we had your run FixWareOut, you can delete the Fixwareout.exe file and the C:\fixwareout folder.
    7. If we had you run Avenger, you can delete all files related to Avenger now.
    8. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    9. You can delete the C:\MGtools folder and the C:\MGtools.exe file. You can also delete the C:\MGlogs.zip
    10. If you are running Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
    * Refer to the cleaning steps in the READ ME for your Window version and see the steps to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
    * Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    11. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:

Seems to be all set. Thanks so much! :D

(And you should talk to the majorgeeks guys about setting up a paypal account or something for donations... I know how little people actually make from the merchandise on sites like that!)
