I made the mistake of downloading the Trial version of Corel Draw last month. I opened some files from a CD made in 2004 to look at them and found that when I had removed the disk and put it in another computer Corel had MODIFIED the files. I was under the impression that once a CD had been closed that you could not write to it again.

As Corell has no customer service with out paying for it, is their any way to change the files back to .JPG???

I have put out the word to my company to NEVER purchase another Corell product and this will be pass up to Corporate also, as we do not want to lose more of our legacy files to this kind of Cr**!!

    Hi

It shouldnt do unless it was a CDRW disk.

What file format are the files in now opposed to .jpg? only asking as Corell can save to a few formats, use Folder Options > View and untick Hide Know File Types and see what the file extention is as it may just be associated with Corell.

Things to try while I dont have the above answer are:

    1. Copy one of the files as a backup and then (will need to untick known file extentions from Folder Options > View tab, then rename the file extention back to .jpg, did this work?

    2. If your files are still JPG and just associated with Corell? if so re-associate them back to Windows Picture and Fax viewer, to do this right click one of the pics and chosoe Open With > then choose Windows Picture and Fax Viewer or Windows Photo Viewer if later Windows versions

    3. If its is a Corell format then try XNview (as it will open 6 of the different Corell formats) to open them and save back to jpg format.

    Halo:

I tried to just change the extension but that does not allow me to open it as a .jpg file. The disk was made for me in 2004 by a friend in the U.K. so is just a CD.

The extension is now something called .pspimage and will not open with anything but one of the newer Corel programs.

I will look for the program you mentioned and see if I can recover the info from the disk and make another one up.

    Thanks,

    Chuck
