Greetings. My son-in-law formatted our desktop hardrive into various segments: besides C, I have G, H, R & Z. The R & Z drives were used for business files, eg Quickbooks. Got up one morning to a blank, blue screen. Could not boot up. I have a external hard drive USB connection going to mylaptop. I can read the C, G & H drives but cannot access R & Z, the ones I need access to recover accounting data. Error message reads: "An error occurred while reconnection Z:to \\192.168.1.3\quickbooks Microsoft Windows Network : the network name cannot be found. This connection has not been restored" with ea attempt to access either drive. 'Properties' shows the pie all blue (full) but '0' bytes.

    Is there hope of recovery?

    I would appreciate your input.
    Thanks, Neil

If you can remember the name of any particular file search for it on the other partitions it is probably located among all the other quickbook files in a folder there.

son in law is available but too busy. His fast-fix proceedures have got me in too much trouble. I lucked-out in finding the critical file like you said. Did a file search on the whole hard drive and it came up in the C drive. 'File Recover' did not recognize the R or Z. I think I'm good for now. trashed the desktop. Thanks for the responce. Good. I realize that I didn't give you a whole lot of info in my other posts. I think the R: and Z: drives are symbolic links to a folder on the C: drive that actually holds the files. So all your quickbook files are in that folder.

Your son-in-law was thinking that calling the quickbooks folder Z:\ was easier than browsing to C:\Documents and Settings\yourname\Desktop\quickbooks (or wherever) each time you wanted to save something..
