This sounds like a problem with the software. How old is the software, and are your XP and Vista versions on the same physical computer?

Yeah - if the CD is giving the same basic error on 2 different PCs, then it's most likely a problem with the software, or the CD itself. Check the disc for scratches, fingerprints, peanut butter, jelly, etc. You can wash dirty CDs/DVDs with lukewarm water and a lint-free paper towel. Be sure it's 100% dry before putting back in the PC.

After re-reading the 1st post, it does appear that Vista and XP are in the same PC, so there is also a chance that the CD/DVD drive is faulty or dirty. If other discs read OK, then we know the drive is not at fault, and that the problem is as I stated above in post #3: either the software on the disc is faulty, or the disc itself is dirty or damaged.

    Hello again,

Thanks for the replies.... I do know for sure it is not the hardware just for the fact tried on my laptop in the begining before storing it in a box because of the same error but was moving and in thought would get back to it later and never did.... that being said yes the xp and vista on the same hd but I believe it is an issue with the software it says works on xp but dug deeper and the paperwork says...........

    Pc requirements
windows 95 and higher including xp
    pentium or higher
    32mb of ram
    50mb hd
    4x cd rom drive
640x480 16 bit color screen resolution

sounds to me that it is older software even though it says the dates of 2001 -2005
i just thought some way shape or form there was a quick fix so the kids can enjoy the learning software.

Caliban I don't need no steenkin' title!

Compatibility mode, maybe? Might even try running it in a virtual box, or an emulator.

Forgive a stupid question, but I'm sure you've tried running other CD's in that drive to be sure it's not a drive recognition problem etc...?
