So, my Windows Vista Compaq computer was away from me being fixed at HP for about 2 weeks. So when it comes back, I'm ready to run Webroot Spy Sweeper. When it starts to download, an error pops up and says "Could not update definitions file. Please go to programs options page and update definitions."

I go to the programs page, and theres nothing there that says anything like update definitions. It won't let me run a sweep unless they're updated, and its been almost a month. I'm guessing that when I sent it to HP, they undid 5 important shields, and I can't figure out how to get them running again :(

Please help! I just got my computer back from 800 dollars in damage, I don't want viruses to overtake it now :cry

    Thanks,
    Lighto

I suggest that you just uninstall Spy Sweeper, reboot, and then reinstall. Do have Spy Sweeper antispyware program and the antivirus (perhaps they call it a security suite)? Why would you pay $800 to get a PC fixed when you can by a brand new one for less money or is this an overpriced laptop?

Won't that void my subscribtion though? I don't have enough money to get a new one, and I just bought one a couple months ago.

Oh, I didn't. The first fix its free, but the damage was about 800$. The motherboard was freaking out on me. And the second fix, not free. I don't have nearly enough money for that, not even a new laptop.
Its seems like a waste to get a new one though, since I have everything already on here, and I only got it one year ago :(

Thanks for the suggestion on uninstalling/reinstalling

No! As long as you have your install program and your license (which may already be part of the installer) you should be just fine.

I didn't quite understand that, but then again, I'm the mother of all things idiotic ^^;; And you're the expert, so I'll try that out!

    Thanks alot!

Actually, I do have a quick question. When I got the computer, geeksquad installed it on my computer, and as the result, I don't have the CD. So I don't know if I can reinstall it...

Then perhaps the reason that you cannot download updates is that it was only a trial program and the trial has expired. If that is what the program is you have two options.

Huh. They didn't say anything about that. And I USED to be able to download updates... And I got everything they offered...

I'll try that though, thank you!

Yes but trial programs do expire. So it that is all it was it could be the reason you can no longer get updates.
