NOTE: I apologize but I sent this as a PM to chaslang b/c I'm such a noob & didn't know how to post as a thread... lol. But here's my question:

Hello all! I apologize to bother you all, but I was in the RUN & READ ME FIRST thread to read about Malware removal. When I got to this step:

"Run CounterSpy - Make sure you have it Quarantine all detections! Also attach the log from CounterSpy later if you still have problems. To get the log after scanning. Click View -> Spyware Scan -> View Spyware Scan History. Next click on the scan you want to view, then click view full details of scan. Right-click anywhere in the window that just opened, click on Select All, right-click again select Copy. Now open notepad and right-click anywhere in notepad and select Paste. Now Save As CounterSpy.txt and attach to your next post. See: HOW TO: Attach Items To Your Post"

I read it thoroughly & followed that instruction. When I ran the scan in Safe Mode in the Admin acct, it ended up finding two Keylogger threats & I followed the directions by "quarantining" it. But I am deeply concerned for I am wondering since CounterSpy is a Shareware & has a trial period, will it affect the quarantined items AFTER the trial period? As in, if the trial is over, will the items that we quarantined still be quarantined? This is my great concern for do we still have to leave the trial version in our computer for it to continue quarantining the items? I hope this made sense & lord... I apologize for bein so wordy! But I thank you so much for your time & hopefully I'lll hear from you soon. :D Thank you once again! :D

Thank you chaslang. So to be extra certain, I apologize to ask again, but does that mean we HAVE to leave Counterspyware installed? Or can we uninstall it & it will still be quarantined? Even after the trial period... Apologies for the noob question, but I am seriously so clueless! LOL. Thks again! :D

The infection will not come back after the trial period ends, and it will not come back if CounterSpy is uninstalled. Part of our normal procedures after all malware has been removed (or sometimes even while still removing malware) we will ask you to uninstall CounterSpy and delete folders related to it. We do this because it is only a trial program, but it is useful in removing many different malware problems automatically.

Thank you Chaslang. But I am not quite sure exactly what Quarantine means then b/c I thought Quarantine means "locking it down" and in order for the malware to be locked down, you would need the program to run this lock-down? Forgive me if I totally didn't make sense here. I was just wondering why must we choose to Quarantine rather than to just simply delete? Thank you again. :)

Quarantine just means that the infected items are removed from the environment where they can cause problems (just like you do when a person gets sick - you isolate them from everyone else). The reason it is best to quarantine first rather than delete first is just in case something is removed that should not have been removed. You can then restore from the quarantine. Once you know that everything that has been quarantine really was bad, you can empty the quarantine or just uninstall the program and delete and folders it leaves laying around after the uninstall (the later is what we do when we remove CounterSpy.

    You're welcome.

Are you working thru the READ & RUN ME because you have malware problems?
If so, what malware problems are you having?
