I try make this easy to understand.

I now have Gigabyte GA-7ZM motherboard. I'am trying to put Athlon XP 2100 there, but it doesnt work. Probably wont reconize it. I'm thinking it wont work because bios is probably outdated. I have now tried to update bios, but no good. When i run autoexac.bat that what i downloaded, first opens cmd window and then something bios looking stuff and it whines "The chipset is not supported" and then "The flash part is not suported" and then "Make sure the flash is not protected" then nothing.

I'd really like to have that prosessor work (it should :confused )computer, it has ~700 ram and ati radeon 9600 pro graphig card, but prosessor is duron 650mhz :cry

Welcome to Major Geeks! :wave :major

I checked the CPU support list. :( The motherboard does not support any CPUs faster than an Athlon XP 1500+. The newest BIOS release was over 6 years ago, and it added support for the Duron 1.3ghz. So... flashing the BIOS is not going to make the 2100+ work. BUT- I'm looking through the manual, and there's a DIP switch (labeled SW1) that will allow you set the FSB to 133mhz if all positions on SW1 are set to OFF. But this depends on which clock generator chip you have. If the chip is an ICW-W230, then SW1 should be set to ON-OFF-ON-OFF. There is also a jumper labeled JP9 which is a "Write Protect" jumper. I'm not 100% sure, but I think this applies to the BIOS. If there is a jumper on JP9 connecting the two pins, then it is in "Write Protect Enabled" mode which means you cannot write to the BIOS. Removing the jumper disables "Write Protect" mode, enabling you to flash the BIOS. So, there you go. I STRONGLY recommend that you read the manual yourself, and read it slowly, thoroughly, and carefully, before doing ANYTHING to the BIOS, and before changing any jumpers and/or switches. I will assume NO responsibility for your actions; if you somehow damage the board or CPU, I apologize, but it's up to you to learn all you can before trying to modify board level functions and settings.

    Good luck!

(you can download the manual in Adobe Reader .pdf format from this link.)

    Thanks
It has JP9, but jumper was only covering one spike...
Chip is ICW W230 and i changed SW1 |ON |OFF |ON |OFF|. Should i now try start computer with 650MHz prosessor or Athlon xp 2100?
