Hello, I have a Lenovo 3000 c100 laptop. It is running erratically, often very slow and 'non responsive'. The CPU often runs at 100%. I run Windows XP prof. SP3. I have followed the instructions in 'Read & Run me first'. Please could someone look at the attached logs and let me know if the problem has been identified. As it is only possible to attach 4 scan logs to this post, the extra one is in a separate post Thanks in advance, Jan Scrivens

    Welcome to Major Geeks!

We cannot continue until you attach the log from MGtools.

Sorry, I did send it but had to put it on a separate post as only allowed to upload 4 items. Here it is now. Thanks for your help. Jan

We only needed the MGlogs.zip file not the HijackThis log which is already in MGlogs.zip. ;)

You are not having malware problems. Your logs are all clean. The only issues you have are the illegal copy of NOD32 that you are running and need to uninstall. And also the below out date version of Java:

IBM 32-bit Runtime Environment for Java 2, v1.4.2

Any performance issues you are having are likely related to software you are running or hardware issues.

Since you are not having malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. Unless you purchase them, they provide no protection. They do not use any significant amount of resources ( except a little disk space ) until you run a scan.
    2. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /u
        • Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /u, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.
    3. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    4. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    5. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    6. Goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    7. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:

    Thanks for the advice.
    I have uninstalled NOD 32
I have tried to uninsall IBM 32-bit Runtime Environment for Java 2, v1.4.2 via add/remove programmes without success. It will not go!
    ComboFix uninstalled with no problem.
Double clicking the MGclean.bat file didn't seem to do anything. All the files and folders and logs relating to MGtools remained. I did a search and manually deleted everything I could find relating to MGtools. Is that OK?
Is it OK to run Avira 'Guard' as well as AdAware 'AdWatchLive'?
The computer is still having intermittent spells of reacting slow and freezing or 'not responding'.
I am now going to work through 'How to Protect yourself from malware!'
    Thanks again for your help.

    You're welcome.
You could try using the below to uninstall it:

    Your Uninstaller! 2009

Not sure what problem you had here as this always runs as long as there is no malware blocking batch files from running. But it is fine if you manual removed everything.

Avira already has an antispyware program built in and it is likely more effective than the Ad-Aware which we don't really recommend anymore since it just is not that good anymore. It mostly wastes your system resources and time and gets you all worried about totally insignifcant items like cookies and MRU's.

Try the Software Forum or start checking for items you are running to see if any are the cause.

Thanks. I have uninstalled IBM Java with the downloaded uninstaller, and removed ADAware too.
Do I need to check for malware blocking the .bat files?
Also. it seems that cccleaner may have deleted my restore points. They have gone and I googled a query. There are a lot of people saying that cccleaner does this. Can you suggest a way to stop that happening or an alternative to cc? :)

    No!

No CCleaner does not delete restore points. ComboFix does when it is removed since it is cleaning up after anything malware may have done to your PC. Thus you have a new clean restore point. When malware has infected a PC, restore points can no longer be trusted and you need to remove them to get rid of any malware hiding there. We do it after cleaning everything up whereas antivirus companies make what we consider an major mistake and tell you to disable system restore before running their scanner. We believe even an infected restore point could be better than none in case of a crash/problem during the cleaning process.;)
