CPU 100% usage problem

I have used all sorts of virus and spyware programs and i have no malware either. When i run programs my cpu usage is always at 100 % even tho im only running one program at a time.


AMD 2500
XP home
geforce 6600 256
1 gig memory

 

When you say CPU usage is 100%, are you talking about: System Idle Process?

Within Task Manager, what is taking your CPU the most?

 

that's my roommate... he specifically notices this when he runs certain games... and in his task manager it's his CPU Usage readout on the bottom...

 

Do the games run fine?

i have already been through the virus/spyware forum and they told me to come here. the game i have been playing has a recomended system requirement of a p2 400 , 256 mb ram , so i know that something is wrong. This game in no way should use up 100% of my computer. When i check task manager while im playing, the cpu is running at 100% and the game runs like shit. I have played other games and every time my comp is running at 100% .

 

Games run at 100% cpu useage. Who would want a game that doesn't use all the resources available to it? Then it would run like poo. There is something else wrong. The only time this game wouldnt be running at or near 100%, is if its an old 2d game, like solitaire

Note my screenshot from another thread. This game runs fine for me.

 

In that screenshot, UT is using 47k memory, when i run my games they use 224k + memory.

 

Actually, its using ~46.5mb of ram. My point was, look at my cpu useage. This is not a CPU useage problem. Instead, there is a good chance that you are running low on memory, and the paging file is being heavily used.

 

i cant see how i would be low on memory, i just upgraded to 1 gig.How can i check this?

 

Check your ram useage prior to running the game via task manager. Then check it, after running the game, when its running like crap. Compare the numebrs.
