When you open Task Manager, Processes tab, what process is taking up most of your CPU?

    system idle process

That means your CPU is doing next to nothing, you're perfectly OK. Look at the bottom of task manager to see your total CPU usage which should be zero or one % with everything else remaining the same.

If it's doing nothing what could be causing the choppy A/V? The disk is free of any malware as per "Dr. Moriarty"... Also, could the rootkit have caused damage to the wireless router? How do I test that? It's got to be something... This computer ran fine before....

I see you only have 512MB of RAM. Add another stick then tell us what you notice.

Okay. I'll try that. Is there an easy way to figure out which type my motherboard accepts? Also what are the processes: plugin container.exe and update.exe These are using a lot of CPU... Can they be deleted?

    Go to http://www.crucial.com/
and click on the system scanner tab below the picture. It will scan your computer and telly you everything you need to know. Write it down. You do not have to purchase the memory from Crucial but you do need all the facts crucial will tell you about slots, maximum, type, speed, etc.

Crucial said I only have 64mb of ram, but that 512gb were available. Why is it not counting all my ram? Surely if only 64mb are being used the system would definatly slow down right?

OUCH! Maybe they mean after the video card, still that sucks real bad man! I'd back up my stuff and reinstall at this point.:confused

The 64 MB must mean the video RAM that your card is using as 64MB is no where near enough RAM for video. It's stealing RAM. Double it! In other words, add a new 512 stick that's compatible. If you can afford it, get a new video card.

Also device mgr says I have an NVIDIA graphics card. However, I'm looking right at it and it says ASUS AGP-V3800. 32m. What is going on here??????

BTW nVidia is the chipset maker, not the card maker, it is confusing at times.Ya, that's an nVidia ASUS card though a dated one, one can't upgrade that too far. Best you can do for the money is get another 512MB RAM, not expensive at all these days.

The speed of my RAM and MOBO is 266. Will DDR-400 work in this thing, or does the new 512 RAM have to match?

It seems like this all started happening after I reset the BIOS. Is there something in the BIOS that could (by default) have this effect on my performance?

Check Crucial, as long as it's the right package then the faster RAM will slow down to yours. It is better if sticks match but for you they are good enough.:cool

Something is not right in the memory area. The below is from the system info log seen in the Malware Forum thread. Notice the memory lines I highlighted.
    Code:
