    Hello All

I was just wanting to get all your thoughts about some good mobo and cpu combos that you guys have had experience with as I'm soon going to be gathering parts for building my own computer. I was thinking some kind of AMD cpu with the range of 2.6 GHZ and up with good overclocking possibility, the only thing is I'm really not that familiar with different kinds of motherboards and what exactly I should be looking at besides FSB speed. Doesn't really matter the socket for the CPU on the mobo, and it only really needs to have about 4 PCI card slots with a couple slots for sticks of memory. But I was just wondering what good or bad experiences you've had with different combos and if you could possibility suggest some.

    Thanks all

DFI is the King of OCing mobo's, second to none!

Then IMO the Best Choice is DFI Lanparty UT NF4 Ultra D socket 939 MOBO with an Opteron 146 CPU & 2x1gb PC4000/DDR 500 memory
Most all of the Opty 146 can do 3GHz or close to it, with Good hardware, Good cooling & some knowledge
There are many great 939 cpu that OC well, all the Opteron's are Excellant even the dual core Opterons are Excellant

Or Socket A, DFI Ultra B NF2 with a XP Mobile & TCCD memory
I have one for Sale, scroll down Ive lowered the Price & will consider offers:

Good memory I listed three that have Excellant support & customer service
    OCZ
    G.Skill
    Patriot

    The list goes on.......................
I would just avoid Value stuff
Most any good memory will have Lifetime Warranty
Many brands use the Same Memory chips:

I use G.Skill HZ's 2x1gb DC kit PC4000/DDR500 in my DFI Ultra D which is made from Samsung UCCC chips
I also use another set of the same stuff in a Asus A8N SLi Preminum mobo
    G.Skill review: http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/GSkill/4000-2GBHZ/1

In my DFI ultra B I use Patriot XBLK 2x256 PC3200 DC kit, Manufacture rated speed at DDR 533, these are made from Samsung TCCD chips

I agree with Asus, DFI is the way to go. As for CPU's. If your looking for something that will OC Id say go for an opteron 146, opteron 165, x2 3800, or a 3700. Opteron 146 has been know to hit 3, 3700+ up to 3.2, opteron 165, 3+ (mine is at 2.8@1.435vcore, waiting for water to come in) and the 3800 has been turning out consistent 2.8 at a low price point, and its dual core.
