abobimn...new here: Recently built my first PC..AMD Athlon 3700+ on an Asus A8N-SLI Premium mobo. The CPU heats up when idling and cools when using resources. Shouldn't it be the opposite? Any ideas will be appreciated.

    Welcome to MajorGeeks abobimn!

And yes, something does not sound right. What are you using to measure temps? Software programs can be off. You might need a BIOS update or something.

Did a BIOS update. Am using Asus Probe V2.24.10 and SpeedFan. Both programs produce identical results so I'm assuming accuracy. Thanks...Bob

CPU thermally controlled? Please explain. Thermaltake CL-P0200 80mm pushing 33.38CFM Copper and quite heavy, good fit too. CPU temps rise to 49C on idle and Mobo temps to 46C and then I'll shutdown if finished. When working, temps stay about 40C and 39C respectively.

I'll disable Quiet & Cool. Thanks for your help. I really do appreciate it. Bob
