CPU Mobo Combo... Plz help ?!

I was wondering if I could get a bit of help on a mobo that my bro made a mistake and bought. The mobo is a Gigabyte GA-6VTXE. The cpu we have is a celeron 1.2Ghz chip. The fsb on the celeron is 100 and the multiplier is 12. Unfortuntely the mobo only supports a maximum multiplier setting of 9.5.

MY question is, will this chip work on this mobo at a max speed of 950mhz OR will the chip not work at all? My fear is it not working at all coz of something I heard about intel locking their multipliers. What do you all think?

If its not going to work then well just sell the mobo on ebay and get one that will.

It should work, It's even listed on Gigabyte CPU support list for that MOBO:

I'm now satisfied that it will work. But will I get 1.2 Ghz or be limited to 950 Mhz?

Next to 'processor' it says:
"Supports CPU multiplier 3.0~9.5 for future processors "

Wouldn't this limit my processing speed to 950Mhz?

It should run at the correct speed. You may need to flash the bios to get it to run at that speed.

 

Yeah, it should work. If it doesn't immediately show up as the correct speed, first try flashing the bios with the most current one:
