Hi all here is the problem. I recently put in a PIII 1Ghz processor in a Dell Dimension L700CXE. It only clocks at 750 Mhz. The original CPU was a celeron 700Mhz CPU. How can I get the full clock speed out of the new CPU? Is it limited by the board parameters even though this is an acceptable upgrade?

There are many limiting factors, it could be locked to a certain multiplier on the board not allowing you to raise it anymore, or it could be the RAM holding your CPU back.

How do you know if it is limited? It was an approved upgrade so why would it be limited. My ram is maxed out at 512mb. Could the CPU be overclocked without touching the ram?

Slot 1 PIIIs and I think all socket 370 ones as well are multiplier locked, the multiplier wont change no matter what X the motherboard tells it to run at. Thus insuring that the CPU will allways run at the correct multiplier. To my knowledge the dell L700CXE doesnt support 133SFB only 66 and 100, I would say the CPU is being forced to run 100x7.5 (750Mhz) instead of the stock 133x7.5 (1Ghz).
