i just recently fixed a problem with my whole computer running hotter than usuall. i orgainized wires, dusted out everything, and fixed some fan configs, and it pretty much fixed the heat problems. except that when i play wow it seems that the only temp that gets too hot now is my cpu. it runs about 47-48 idle, and then jumps to around 65 on full load.

i play games like wow and hl2, but i dont think that they should be making my cpu temps jump up that high.

any suggestions as to what i should do to get the temp back down? i atleast wanna run in the mid 50's on heavy, if i can get it there i will be happy.

What were your temps prior to cleaning? Was it also running hot while gaming prior to fixing stuff inside your case?

Did you disconnect the HSF or anything else "cooling" related during your dusting work?
Is there good conductivity between the chip and the HSF (ie - thermal grease)?

Just some easy things to look at, g'luck.

my temps were in the low to mid 40's on idle prior to cleaning, but when i would play games, all the tems would jump to 60+. now they stay in the mid to high 40's, with the acception of the cpu. i was thinking it could be that the only thermal greese im using is what came on the hsf, but would new thermal greese really make that much of a difference by it self, or should i look into getting a newer/better hsf?

the comments are appreciated, keep them comming :)

i was looking at a acrctic 5 reiview on a website, and i saw that there instructios were being done on an older processor...one where its easy to tell where the core is. now seeing as how i have a 3500+, where would i have to put the acrctic 5? im assuming that it would be in the middle of the processor, but would i have to apply it alittle farther out than just the core?
