    It goes to out-of-limit tempsjust @ start-up:
    CPU 65deg C, Zone1 >45 Zone2 >45

This is the 2nd CPU behaving like this. Intell people here in Pakistan could not resolve.
I searched Web & got one posting from UK complaining the same problem.

I think it is the Product Problem, as Intell people suggested to replace PowerSupply which I replaced with a 450W one. But problem remains there.
And the Manufacturer is not heeding to my recurring complaints.
I cannot work on-line as on downloading [dial-up connection] repeated over-temp warnings come on.

    Any tip:rolleyes:

clean out your CPU heatsink (with a can of compressed air or just blow on it to get the dust out), make sure it is properly seated, and, if u want, u could replace it with a better one.

If its getting that hot that fast its like the heatsink is not locked down on the cpu, check that out. ed

    Dear Sir.
I am an old Power Electronics Engr & know well about Heatsinks & their proper installation. More over Intell people here in my country have tried their best to cure it by cleaning heatsink, processor-top & all that.
More over it is the 2nd case I have purchased 3,2GH Pentium & in both the cases it is identical behaviour.

Is the computer crashing or shutting down?

Maybe tere is nothing wrong with tthe CPU, maybe it is the sensor. Just a guess.

    1. I have 2 such systems on 2 different Mainboards [Intell latest].
    2. Both are behaving similarly.
    3. Sensors on Mainboards are the best of Industry standards. I have cheched their manufacturers data.
    4. I found one complaint for the same processor on some UK Vendors sight.
Though it is a single known to me or reported complaint, there may be a lot of it.
Intell has no such facillity on their website for complaints/ feedback [at least I could not find], so how you can lodge or find such postings.

very unusual to have the CPU temp max out on start up!
Even more suspicious at 2 seperate systems running the same temps...

What operating system are you running and is it a genuine version?
Also, do you run the same software programs on both systems at startup?

I hate when people blaim the product, trust me, if it was the product, more than a few people would be complaining about the temp problems...

I used to get a similiar problem, but it wasn't my CPU. I just unplugged it for awhile, and let it discharge, then it came back fine.

Of course U may be right. But in my case the vendor, Intells customers service & all the knwon experts called by the vedor could nor resolve.
One of the experts kept the system idle & told me is not the sys OK?
I just started Virus scanning & within 10 minutes the sys shut down. He pulled out the processor & tried to sense temp & got burnt his fingers.

They all know how to handle & fix processors. But what can it be when even the Intell people could not resolve it.

Can U please give a tip?
Imyself is Power_Electronics Engr & know some-what about heat & dissipation & how to keep Power-components cool.

    Thanks any-how about your comments.

OS:Dual boot installed by a Genuine Vendor
AVG free Antivirus Boot-scanning runs on start-up in both systems & normally run processes by windows itself on boot-up.

Thermal Paste? Too much can lead to over heating, same as too little. Just a thought.

Another thought, may not be the CPU at fault could be the sys board. Same board on both systems?

I dont think the heatsink is even touching the cpu, feel the heatsink, if its hot its working, if its cool, or hardly warm its not. ed

Processor has exclusive duct for air oulet in casing & you can feel hot air coming out as you can feel behind the Power Supply.

Of course you are right & I know it how to fix the HeatSink-Compound without air-bubble or excessive paste. Even I have tried the heat-sink Pad, a standard way used now for power Semiconductors heat management.

Please look for some very specific reason.

It is not a fresh case but 3 long years of problem being looked into by the Vedor, his all assissting friends, Intell in my country. I have 2 such PCs built around Intell mainboards, one is indicated on image in my postings & the other I dont remember but the latest here in my country, as I am working on my son's PC in other location,. I can indicate its model when I return home, if it is not already taken by vedor to Intell people again for their enquiry.

I cannot use my both the PCs online as none can stay for a while.

It is astonished that some of the friends say that I cannot suspect the CPU.

Mind for propabillities though how remote, 0.01 PPM or even less, but I have 100% failure rate for Intell CPU. 1/1

Hope for resolving suggestion or some friend can tell me the link of Intell's Feedback/ Discussion group in English.

Okay what is your CPU Alias, i.e. the die or model? Mine is a Prescott and they are reknown for being very hot CPU's and Intel is certainly very aware about the overheating issue with this particular model, mine can hit 65C often and I must clean the heatsink and refresh the thermal paste at least every 6 months or suffer impaired performance. I recently completely dismanteled the Heatsink removing the top mounting cage and fan and sucked all the dust out with a vacum cleaner and it improved temps by 10C.

    Things you can try:

Use a good thermal grease (pads are inefficeint and become quite ineffective within a very short time period ~3months) will decrease temps by 5-8C permanently. I use Artic Silver 5 and apply about the size of a large size of grain to the centre of Intergrated Heat Spreader. Here's a good link:

    www.articsilver.com

Secondly you could consider getting an after market heatsink to further improve your thermal management. This is a very good one and will make a significant difference to your CPU operating temps and minimise thew likelihood of Thermal Throttling slowing your system to a crawl.

    Zalman CNPS9500:

    http://www.zalman.co.kr/eng/product/view.asp?idx=165&code

It has won a lot of awards.

What is the ambient temperature that the systems are running in? Mine is sometimes in a room and it can hit upto 32C and thus becomes very hot itself.

out of curiosity, what should be an average opp temp. I am sure it would very, correct?

Regards & thanks for Ur reply which only points to the real problem in the product.

My is alsoPrescot, Hyper Tech [HT].

Thanks for Ur suggestions, but points for Intells' consideration:
    1. If they know the problem why they are so reluctant to address the users' problem & behave like a reputed Multi-natioal Co.

    2. The cooler [including Fan] supplied with the processor is the cheapest in market & more over has no ID to see properties ie Thermal [xx deg C/Watt rise] & is inferior themal Ratings. Intell should supply a much better cooler.

    3. I used Thermal Pads just to try & reverted to Themal Grease.

    Thermal Calculations @ 35° C Ambient
    ============================
    Ambient: 35° C
    Thermal Rating:: 0.39 ° C/W
    CPU Power @ Min : 70W @Max Speed: 80W
    Temp rise @ Min speed: 0.39 x 70 = 27.3°C
    Temp rise @ Max speed: 0.39 x 80 = 31.2°C

    Temp @Min speed= 62.3°C
    Temp @ Max speed= 66.2°C

Note: The Cooler used actually is inferior to above quoted Cooler which is used by European consumers as the 3.2GHz CPU,s Cooler being marketted in in our country is not define-able on Intel website.

I search for Postings on it & got it, from UK, a much cooler country than mine. Enjoy his remaks!!!!!!

    HOT!!!!, October 9, 2005
Reviewer: xvidman from Birmingham, UK Previously, I used to have Intel Pentium 4 3.0 GHz, 800FSB, 512 kb L2 Cache. So i decided to upgrade to Prescott Core, with 1mb L2 cache and 3.2 GHz speed.
My old cpu used to have a stable temperature of 45 Degrees C. When i installed this, the temperature jumped to 70 Degrees Celcius, without any noticeable performance improvements.

Sadly Intel is a big Co. and can afford to have a % of inferior products within the market place and not significantly affect their market share. The Prescott is one such CPU. The product does have a safeguard in that "Thermal Throttling" will kick in when the CPU hits a nominal temperature (not sure of the specific) and it will throttle performance down until the CPU is at a more desiarable operating temp, then increase performance again minimi sing the potential of you "Frying" the CPU.

A good guide for operating temps on most CPU's:

    http://users.erols.com/chare/elec.htm

My case has a side inlet fan and funnel directing onto the CPU about 5cm above it but I also find this will also allow dust infiltration and accumulation during significant load. I have put a piece of stocking behind the side inlet fan (against the side panel) after the last clean and although this may impair inflow slightly the Heatsink is not becoming impaired and overall temps are remaining lower. You could try this. Another point is to check your BIOS under "PC Health" and note at what temp is the "Shutdown Temp" set at, I am suspucious this is what is causing your system to shutdown. I have mine set at 80C and about a month ago was hitting upto 75C before the "spring cleaning".

    Regards.
Max operating temp is dependent on ambient Temp & quality of product, ie commercial, industrial or Mil grade, specified @ 25 C, 35 C & 55 C.
Pentiums has max somewhere 50-60 C after which it slows-down gradually to maitain lower temp, where after shuts down.
@ slower speeds UR sys is crawling.
