My Windows XP(SP3) Task Manager says my system is maxed out at 100% usage on avgrsx.exe and all visible funtions (windows opening and scrolling, etc.) are very slow and jerky. Does anybody know what's going on and how to stop it?
    Thanks:confused

    Greetings, firestorm1...

avgrsx.exe appears to be the resident shield component of AVG, so the program is probably scanning...I'm not an AVG user, but I would imagine there are options within the program's control panel for stopping/starting/scheduling file system scanning...

Thanks, Caliban. I think you may be right in that my problem had something to do with the Resident Shield part of AVG anti virus program however the problem became sporadic yesterday and during the times that my cpu usage was normal, I observed the Resident Shield still scanning in the background. Anyway, because it still was a problem at times, I used System Restore to back up a couple of days. It seems to have worked. It's been about two hours since and things are still fine so I will wait and see.
    Thanks again for your response.
