    Good afternoon.

I am co-owner of a small business running seven PCs. My PC has the company software installed on it. Currently this PCs CPU is running at a constant 100%.

It's a Windows XP Proffessional with Service Pack 2. Intel Pentium 4E, 2800 MHZ (5.25 x 533)) Dell Computer with 1533 MB of memory. The ADIA32 Report is attached.

It takes a lot longer to load programs but other than that it isn't giving me any problems.

I have run all the scans in and out of safe mode. Attached to this and the next thread are those scans that were run in safe mode. Would monitoring software cause this?

Here are some more of those scans. RunKey was not run in safe mode.

What program handle is jumping to 100% CPU usage?

I don't know. It's at 100% from the moment it boots up and never changes.

Sorry. I should have asked what is a program handle?

Sorry, I assumed that since you knew the CPU usage that you must be using taskmanager. Here's the steps to find out. When the CPU usage hits 100% again, please do the following:

    1. Hit Ctrl + Shift + Esc (be patient; it may take the CPU a little while to process the request)
    2. On the 'Windows Task Manager' dialog select the 'Processes' tab

Here, you should see all the programs running on your system. The 'Program Handle' is under the 'Image Name' column. One of these should be showing 100 under the 'CPU' column. This is the information we are after.

    Good afternoon!

Thank you for responding. You were right. I was using the Taskmanager. I have never heard of the term Programs Handle. I know little about computers.

    "spoolsv.exe" is running at 99%.

Wow, you are 22 yrs old and you know this. I am impressed, and indebted. Thank you for your effort.

One thing Mada_Milty did not mention is that you can click on the heading CPU (in the processes tab) and sort CPU usage to ascending, or descending usage.
You can also sort any of the other headings, up or down, as well. Bazza

You're welcome.:) That tip works on lots of programs, as well.
That is, click on any heading and sort sequence MAY change. Bazza

Issue has been resolved. I was thinking this morning that it has to be something to do with spooling. In looking at the installed printers I found that someone had logged on as a Guest and attempted to print two documents on a nonexistent printer. Before I made any changes I checked and the program handle - spoolsv.exe was still at 99%. I then deleted documents that were spooling at which time the nonexistent printer disappeared. Now my taskmanager shows that my CPU is at only 4%!!!

Thank you all for your help!

Looks like you better disable Guest access. Bazza

I did disable Guest quite sometime back. I had no idea Guest option could be a hazard.
