    HI,
My poor old computer, due for retirement in October, has had these random faults for some time now, and although they are easily sorted, they do tend to be somewhat annoying.
Faults are that occasionally my CPU ,( Athlon 1.2,) shows on the opening screen as running at 855 instead of its normal 1133. This is fixed by going into bios and setting the cpu speed back up to 133mhz.

The clock fault is also a random one, sometimes showing a time no where near the correct one, and when checked in control panel, the date has generally jumped back to August 2001.

I was wondering if both these things could be attributed to the CMOS battery, or a bad connection there?

    Any thoughts gratefully received!!

    Harry.

Sounds like a dead CMOS battery.
