CPU Spiking (svchost+dwm, msmpeng?)

Well here's my problem. As of the last week, my CPU has been spiking, and it's been pissing me off. I've attached a few images of Process Explorer to see if anyone can help me with this. Svchost seems to be related to the DWM, and I'm not sure what is causing msmpeng to go all screwy. I do have Microsoft Security Essentials installed though.

I've also tried searching around here but couldn't find a solution :| Are there any diagnostics that you would want me to run? I know there are guides in the Malware forum, but didn't see anything akin to that in this forum.

Wow, I can't believe I forget to even mention my OS. I guess I could list stuff but I imagine this would be a lot more comprehensive.

 

You seem to have quite a lot running, do you manage which programs you allow to run at boot-time?

 

Yes, I do, and yeah I know it's quite a bit more than normal.

The thing is, I've never had these CPU spikes before :|

 

Im thinking, it is likely going to be something checking for upgrades or updates or similar.

If you stop all unneeded items running, and restart them one by one you should find the culprit that way.

Items running at boot time are bad resource hogs, i only have three things running at boot and one is my AV.

What are all the items you have in your start up list?
