OK i have another question ( 3rd one in two days but i just got this computer 3 days ago for only 250 bucks) This computer came with a Intel Celeron 450 socket 775 LGA @ 2.2GHz and I'm thinking of upgrading it to a Core 2 Quad series i was thinking of getting a 3.0GHz but they cost just alittle to much here is a list of the ones i've been looking at

You'd have to be sure that the motherboard supports a quad core processor. Chances are, since it came with a Celeron and was only $250, it won't support the quad, but who knows. Do the research before buying any processor. Returning processors can be a nightmare.

That model number is an obscure Dell number (I think) and I can't seem to find much data on it. If you could post the make/model of the motherboard and/or the make and model of the PC (I'm pretty sure it's a Dell Inspiron 530), or, better yet, attach an Everest report to your next post, we can probably get the info needed. Click this link for an Everest "how-to". You can download Everest from this link. It's freeware.

I did some research, and found that in theory the motherboard should take the quad, but chances are, it won't. First, Dell has limited the BIOS to where it will not recognize the quad (if you used the original OEM BIOS, it would accept the quad, but there is no OEM BIOS available). Second, apparently there is some type of voltage issue that prevents a quad core from functioning in your motherboard. Again, thank Dell. They had the motherboard altered from the original spec. Third, even if the board did take a quad core, you'd likely be forced to upgrade your power supply. The stock Dell unit is only 300w or 350w and is not going to satisfactorily power a quad core system (or so I've read). I found a very informative thread in the Dell forums; click this link.

Any one of these should work... when you decide on a CPU, be sure to double check -do your research- and be absolutely certain that the CPU is compatible.....

Also, a power supply upgrade might be needed depending on your current configuration: video card, hard drive(s), CD/DVD drives, etc.... anyway, one of those CPUs should be OK but be sure to double check. Don't get mad at me if you buy one and it isn't compatible LOL

Maybe you need a micro ATX power supply

I bought a different model of this several years ago to put into an HP mini tower.
I was happy with the company and the product.

I'm sure if you measure the dimensions of the current power supply and then inquire, they can tell you the dimensions of this unit.

Since we don't know your model of Dell, we are guessing at the specs.
