I hope this is the right forum to post this. Here's my recent dilema. My CD ROM has decided it doesn't want to read any copywritten discs.

If I pop in a music or document disc that I burned it will pop the box prompting me to pick a program to open it with. It reads the disc fine so I'm guessing it's clean and functioning. All is cool there.

Now I'm trying to load my software like Office or my Logitech mouse, or any other copywrite protected discs and it does nothing happens. No autostart or box being prompted. I tried > My computer...> d drive...does nothing nor does it show any files.

I've uninstalled any CD software thinking that they might have some hidden way of disabling autostart...not help.

I'm thinking autostart is ok in the registry or it wouldn't prompt on a music disc.

Im running XP Home, Norton AV 2004, Spybot, Microsoft AntiSpyware, SpywareGuard, and a ZoneAlarm Firewall.

It seems like the CD ROM is functioning ok. Its functioning perfectly on burned discs, just does nothing on any of my software discs.

This is also a fresh install off the restore disc.

    What am I missing?

    Jim

I think this issue has everyone here stumped as well. Does anyone know of a forum that could help me with this.

    Regards,

Hi Desert guy , this is a weird one, have you tried without auto detect, I had a similar issue a while back and tried all else like you and as a last ditch attempt i swapped the CDRW (master) CDROM (slave) round the other way and its been ok ever since, why I dont know but could be worth a try :)
