Turn on CNN. There is a Jet Blue Airbus with a screwed up landing gear circling the airport in CA. The already dumped their fuel.

They say they'll either try to land on two wheels or retract them completely and try to slide in on it's belly. Pretty scary. Live coverage on CNN.

its scary but also kind of fun to watch. dont bite my head off but this kind of thing gets the airlines in gear for fixing there planes. have they tried bring back up the gear and thin try putting them back down??

I don't get CNN. Which 2 wheels are down? If they have 2 main wheels down, landing on them is preferrable, holding the nose up as long as posslble. Should make for a scary but fairly safe landing. If one main and the nose wheels down, they should go in on the belly, as the wing that drops will tend to spin, then flip the aircraft, which is much more dangerous than belly landing. If they try belly landing, they'll foam the runway, which will help retard any sparks & potential flames. They may do that anyway, just to help the nose slide.

It's the front wheels. They're stuck sideways.

They're going to try to land in LAX since the runways are longer than in Burbank.

Something like 140 passengers on board. A310 Airbus, JetBlue filght 292. Enroute from Burbank to JFK.

maybe when the nose gear touchs the ground it will make it fix its self with out making it fold up.

still dont know if the nose is locked or not and they cant even get the gear up.

    Whew! Perfect!

The front wheels never did straighten out, they sparked a lot and the tires basically disintegrated, but it landed beautifully.

Is now a good time to admit my ex-husband was the stress design engineer on the landing gear on the Airbus????

Um, no. Not right after a gear failure. ;) :D

Actually, the design of the gear failed, but the stress loading worked ok since the landing was safe despite the gear failure. He didn't design the actual gear...he designed into the other mechnic's gear design the loading IF gear failure occurred so that it wouldn't break up on touch down. I'd say it had been reasonably effective in achieveing that. :)
