    Hello all,

I am new to this forum but I have been reading through some older threads and figured this is the place I need to post. I have recently been having issues with my laptop. It is a Dell Inspiron 5520 running windows 7 premium. I have always used google chrome as my main browser until I randomly had issues downloading and saving word/powerpoint documents from my professors and really everywhere. So I did a system restore and uninstalled chrome and have been using explorer :/ ever since. Well, then I found out I can't attach any documents to an email anymore (basic word documents). I can download and save files but I am having troubles now with the attaching part. Also, I am not sure if it is just IE but the browsing has been very slow at loading the page and frequently crashes randomly on me. I found a thread before that also describes my problem to a T.

I would greatly appreciate any advice you guys could give me or any fixes that you know of.

    Hi

What email service do you use is it online email like gmail and using your browser or do you use an email client like Outlook or Thunderbird etc?
Its possible that some online email services use Adobe Flash in the process of attaching, so install or update Adobe Flash and see if that works.

If browsing slow, is your Windows 7 fully up to date, have you checked for malware, what is the speed of your internet service and is that ok?
What security software do you have installed and please name all 3rd party software that was not part of Windows like Defender, as too many security apps can cause slowness and random crashes.

The email I use is outlook which I use through my browser. I had avast and mcafee but I deleted them after I did the system restore. Currently looking for a new one.

Cleanly removing both McAfee and Avast is sadly not as simple as the standard uninstall process.
You should now run their official removal tools to properly clean your system of all left over files/entries:
    Avast: https://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility
    McAfee: http://www.majorgeeks.com/files/details/mcafee_consumer_product_removal_tool.html
Then restart your system. Not doing the above may cause your system further problems.

In the meantime the built in Firewall and Windows Defender in any Windows 7,8,8.1 or 10 will do fine until or if you choose alternatives but you should ensure the Windows Defender definitions are kept up to date either via Windows Update or from within WD tools itself.

I ran the removal tools but I am still having issues. I can't attach any document to an email or upload it to my professor. Also, loading a tab or different web page takes a lot of time and will usually crash. I'm not sure if I should take it to a computer repair or what because I am not very tech savvy lol

I did a complete scan for malware and it came up with nothing. Ugh this is so frustrating lol

If the problem has not gone away, then you need to follow the links given so that trained Malware Experts can check your system to be sure. But it's up to you.

alright, thanks. I'm going to start reading that. I did just notice something..when I went to attach a document to an email it says, "something went wrong while connecting to OneDrive for business. You can access OneDrive from the nav bar or from the app launcher" and I noticed today when I restarted my computer it said, one drive bad image error. I am sorry I am kind of all over the place but like I said I am computer illiterate and stressed because I have to use my computer for school.

I fairly quick thing you could try is to run the System File Checker - sfc /scannow
    See this guide:
    https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/kb/929833
Do read it carefully - you must run it from an elevated command prompt, ie an Administrator Command Prompt
and read further down how to get a plain text document on the desk top with the results.

Thanks for the responses, I really appreciate it. I'm going to try that as well as malware stuff. I did happen to find out that when I just created a new admin account on my computer and used that everything seemed to work fine. o_O
