First, thanks for Major Geeks help in the past as well as now. I have a number of questions going all at once.

The subject is given since my Win7 won't allow me to make a restore point.
Apparently one was never made (the setup is fairly new but not brand new and perhaps something I missed.)

    Errors include:

"The volume shadow copy of System Restore is not working"

"Configure Restore" settings box is greyed out as unavailable

The dialog on 'available drives says "Searching" and does not show completion.

My clone backups are done with a old version of Norton Ghost on whole disk.
I'm simply looking for the option / repair within Windows to create/add a restore point on a working drive for Win7 x64.

As a followup I noted that Malwarebytes makes a restore point. Can that be used/activated on system recognized by Win7? Are there other workarounds?

Moved your thread to software as you were not directly asking for help with malware removal. :)

I was not sure-- saw some related threads here. Will wait for any answers where they might pop up.
