To be honest cricket was seen as a middle aged person sport but thankfully it is actually becoming hip again.:) It is a goods sport, but try and get your wife into the sport and expect strange looks  I go by my own experiance haha..

We ahve waited many years for the Ashes be brought home were it belongs. But in truth Australia has always been better no hiding the afct, but thankfully we have a good team again since the lamb/gatting/Gowing'botham era.

Go Warney !!!!!! 5 wickets already !!!!! POM's 7/319 at stumps !!!!!! on a perfect pitch after winning the toss !!!!! It's 5.39am Friday morning. Cricket finished about 2 hours ago and I can't sleep. This test looks like being another beauty. Pity we didn't play McGill, though. Bazza

cricket can be amusing...but football...the REAL football played by big strong fast men in pads with hostile intentions is on....so ask me about cricket again in late January heh heh heh....

disclaimer: I do not mean to offend just expressing my love of football and in no way mean to belittle or demean anyone else`s liesure time activities

  11. Lev

    Lev MajorGeek

You are confusing it with rugby where REAL big strong men don't need to wear pads! :p

    Go cherry & whites!

I played rugby while in the USMC...trust me...while rugby hurts...American football has more strategy, and hurts a LOT more

    Lev MajorGeek

You weren't playing rugby correctly then ;)

  17. Sasquatch77

broken nose (twice) and several chipped teeth....I was playing correctly....American football still hurts more

Broken nose and chipped teeth? I have friends who had that when they were 5 from playing rugby....

The point I`m trying to make is that American football players are BIGGER, STRONGER, FASTER, and need more knowledge of the intricicities of the game. I`m not trying to belittle rugby as a sport or question the toughness of it`s participants. Nor would I question the toughness of Australian football...which I also tried, and hurts more than rugby.

My son did that at a Valentine's school disco when he was 11...who needs rugby ? LOL :p

Aussies 0/117 (or as the POM's say, 117/0) and bad light and rain stopped play. Bloody weather, small grounds, with the boundary rope making them even smaller. There oughtta be a standard cricket ground size, like the MCG, for example. :D That would slow down those huge scores in Pommieland.

    Go Aussies. Bazza

Bl**dy rain again !!!!! 2/227 odd. And only 2 days left. We can still do it, if the rain stays away. Bazza

Real football is played with a round ball. What you are talking about is pass the egg. :)

Last time that I checked, a round ball was either hit with a bat or thrown through a hoop to score points! To each their own, and hope that all are having a nice day!

It's a crying shame it had to come down to the weather, but that always has been a part of Cricket.

I`ve played what the rest of the world calls "football" with a round ball. Up and down the field for three hours...1-1....yeeehaaa lets play another. Mind-numbing enui. I couldn`t disagree with you more. Rugby and Aussie football are fun but soccer??? Don`t be offended but soccer is the greatest sleep aid I`ve ever seen.

LOL...Actually he stepped backwards (not dancing) tripped over his friend's leg and promptly sunk his two front teeth into the poor kid's head. They stayed there

Right...that would be why that last Rugby player to try out for an NFL team was carried off the field trying to remember who he was this pre-season... :p

Hmmm...I wonder if he even made the team he was trying for...

Congratulations to England. They outplayed us in nearly every test. Weather and bad Ponting field settings helped. If only Pietersen had been dismissed earlier today, but that's cricket. The next Ashes series will see a completely different Aussie team as the oldies retire, or are dropped.

We are now entering a rebuilding period. Interesting to see how they go in the next International series coming up in a few months. Bazza

Probably not...and to his credit, playing rugby is a tough sport, but compared to American Football it`s like comparing basket-weaving to bare-knuckle fighting. The American game has SO much more speed and power...

  41. Lev

    Lev MajorGeek

Speed???? You stop every 5 seconds to work out the score and adjust shoulder pads :p

  42. Sasquatch77

    Sasquatch77 MajorGeek

The break is a good thing...(5 seconds of adrenaline...75 times a game)it keeps the chains moving...and allows the players that are moving SO MUCH FASTER than thier counterparts in the lesser sports(ie. rugby aussie fotball and the oh-so sleep enhancing soccer(I cant` call it football) the time to plan strategy and maintain the speed and impact that is inherent to the game remain FAR beyond what the others offer.

  43. Sasquatch77

    Sasquatch77 MajorGeek

Being a spectator is a great thing...but unless you`ve played all the aforementioned games you really can`t understand the difference in them. I have...and believe me...apart from American football...while the others(except soccer) are fun, American football requires greater strength speed and endurance

  44. bigbazza

    bigbazza R.I.P. 14/12/2011 - Good Onya Geek

Sorry sasquatch. But American Football (gridiron) fast??? You gotta be kidding.

Any of the other brands of football, Soccer, Aussie Rules, Irish football, even Rugby League leave gridirion dead, for speed, IMHO. Bazza

  45. Lev

    Lev MajorGeek

Interesting and helpful post Bazza....someone at work asked me today if you guys called it gridiron...I had never heard the term. Thanks :)

Where else but in The National Football League do 300 pound plus men move as fast....some faster than the so-called fast men in the "other" games. A 300 pound man that runs a 4.9 40 yard dash in full pads is much more impressive than a 185 pound rugby player running a 4.4. Again I don`t mean to offend but having participated in all the aforementioned sports American Football has it ALL over the others...and I mean no disrespect....I`ve just been there.

Another thing...most American football teams have players with world-class speed...don`t say the NFL isn`t fast....in this case ignorance is not bliss.

  47. Yargwel

    Yargwel MajorGeek

As a Rugby (Union) fan and an NFL fan I don't see how you can even begin to compare the two games. OK NFL may be fast and hard in very short bursts but it does take you three hours to finish a game that is ostensibly an hour long. At least with Rugby the 80 minutes played is continuously apart from a 10 minute half time break.

A couple of years ago I watched a Rugby Union team play an NFL team at rugby and they thrashed the NFL boys. But then a reverse fixture was played ie American football and the NFL boys thrashed the rugby team. So I don't think you'll ever persuade a rugby fan that NFL is better or vice versa beacause the only similarity is the shape of the ball. :D

Take the armour of NHL players and then it will be nifty game ;) ;) ( used to love it until UK TV started pushing the schedule back to 1am+ air times, now wouldnt know any of the players )

On topic-ish... wonder when the Cricket team will be Knighted?

Hahahahhahaha thats so true but once knighted they wont win jack anymore and be resigned to opening supermarkets and charity shops ;) *cough* Dame Kelly Holmes *cough* GB is scratching around for sporting hero's and will honour anyone who wins something big, even if its only once... took the like's of Steve Redgrave ( 5 gold medals over 5 olympic games.. now thats a sporting hero, just like Lance Armstrong ) ... sadly IMHumbleO UK honours are given out like sweets these days :(

Edit: Not so say the Cricket wasnt superb and they really deserve all the praise they get BUT lets see if they win some other tournies before handing out the gongs!
