Critical Error and programs aren't working

    Hi,

I have Windows XP Pro x64.

I just did a Windows Repair and since then, I've been having some problems.

As soon as the Repair was finished and my desktop opened, I received the messages that are shown in the attachment. One of my programs (MGI PhotoSuiteIII SE) won't work (so that I couldn't crop the attachment) and when I uninstalled and reinstalled MGI, it still didn't work.

I'm also having a problem with IE8. I uninstalled it and reinstalled it but it didn't help. What happens is, when I open a browser and try to click on a site in Favorites, the page doesn't go to that site . . . it just stays where it is. The same thing happens when I open a new tab and the same thing happens if I type an address in the address bar. It doesn't go where I tell it to go. I know that I don't have any malware and after the Windows Repair, I would think that Windows would be working without glitches. :confused

I looked in Internet Options but didn't find any settings that would fix the IE8 problem.

Any thoughts about what's going on or what I can do to fix the critical error, MGI PhotoSuite, and IE8?

The 5th time I installed MGI PhotoSuite, it worked . . . can't explain it, but I attached a cropped image of the critical error message that I attached in my original post because it's pretty hard to read what it says since it's so small.

    Hi DomLuc,

That was an excellent page . . . thank you :)

Since I have Windows XP Pro X64, I went to http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/devtools/debugging/install64bit.mspx and downloaded 64-bit Native x64 Version 6.11.1.404.

All went well until I ran the report. The initial results are in attachment 1.

When I clicked on !analyze -v, I received the results that are shown in the attachments 2 and 3.

I then clicked on VIDEOPRT, shown in attachment 4. I'm not sure, but is it telling me that my graphics driver is causing the problem? There are times when my pc boots all the way (I hear the Windows wav file) but my desktop is black.

I've been trying to resolve the problem where I need to reset my computer several times before it will boot all the way to my desktop. I've received several messages that my display driver is causing the problem. I uninstalled my display drivers updated to the latest driver at the ATI site. When my pc rebooted, I received a blue screen that said "A problem has occurred and Windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer - ati2dvag . . ."

When I reset again, a MS video card troubleshooting window opened. It said that either the device isn't working properly or the driver isn't the correct driver. I performed one of the options that it gave me . . . to reduce hardware accelleration from full to none for the video card.

I'm still having problems booting up because of the video card or its driver. I received the message from MS that's attached. Could it be more probable that it's not a driver problem but the video card itself is defective?

This is the newesst message that I received from MS. I moved the slidebar for graphics accelleration to mid-point to see if it would help but it didn't.

    Any ideas?

Well, I believe I found the problem, but I don't know what to do about it.

I just finished formatting my computer two times. The first time, I installed the drivers for my adapter card when Windows was installing (pressed S6). I also installed my mobo firmware/drivers from its disk, Avast, the Utilities and Drivers from the video card disk. I then downloaded the newest drivers at the ATI site and installed them. When I tried to boot my computer, it wouldn't boot up all the way to my desktop. I tried to uninstall the video card drivers from Add/Remove Programs but it wouldn't do it. I reset my computer about 15 times but it was it would boot to my desktop, so I had to do another format.

The second time, I didn't install the the graphics driver until I had installed most of my programs and MS Updates. Each time I installed something, I rebooted and each time my computer booted all the way to my desktop. I put the diskette with the updated video card drivers on it into Drive A and installed installed themt. As soon as I did, my computer stopped booting all the way to Windows unless I reset it about 5 to 7 times.

Since the original utilities and drivers that are on the video card's CD and the updated drivers don't work, I don't know what else can be done so that the video card will work and Windows will boot to my desktop each time I boot up.

All help will be greatly appreciated.

Can I have a little help here plz . . . I'm concerned that this problem is going to cause more problems with my computer.

I have a GIGABYTE GA-EP45-DQ6 mobo and an ASUS EAH4650-DI-512MD2 graphics card. Could it be that they're not compatible?
