Lenovo all in one running Windows 10 Home.

    Hi
Have got the dreaded BSOD with the message " critical process died" but I am having trouble getting into safe mode to try to repair the problem.
I have stopped the PC three times until I get the message "preparing Automatic Repair" then it goes to "startup settings" I press "4" and have also tried "F4" but it just goes back to the blue screen with the message "your device ran into a problem"and it just goes round again.
    Any help much appreciated.

Have followed instructions to "Press shift + F8" which goes to a black screen with the message "preparing automatic repair then a blue screen and I click advanced options - troubleshot - - advanced options - startup settings - restart - startup settings - press 4 to enable safe mode and it just goes back to the blue screen with the message Your device ran into a problem and needs to restart

I don't run Windows 10 so I can't do any troubleshooting on my computers.

As I am finding it impossible to get into safe mode would the Media Creation Tool help?
I have an old PC and have downloaded Media Creation Tool onto a flash drive, I am just worried that I will lose my photos and documents if I use this tool.

I don't see how the media creation tool could help - it's for installing Win 10 rather than fixing errors. I too have found that trying to persuade a non-booting Win 10 to boot in safe mode can be quite a challenge but I haven't given up yet.

I got a paid newsletter yesterday. One of the free, no install tools mentioned for techs to keep on a USB stick was to get any computer to boot into safe mode. It was listed on a different site but since MajorGeeks has it, I'll post that link instead of the paid newsletter link.

    1. Download it and put it on a USB stick.
    2. Put the stick in the Windows 10 computer and click the exe for the program.

Here are screenshots and a longer explanation of possible switches.

    Thanks for your help.
Not working for me, have put Bootsafe on USB drive and plugged into PC switch on and I get the same message preparing automatic repair then I click advanced options - use a device - generic USB device and it goes to the blue screen with the message your device ran into problem and needs to restart.
Have tried it in all USB slots.

If you have killed a critical process and windows wont boot, your best choice maybe to boot to live distro of Linux on a USB.
Access your drive, backup what you need, then clean install windows again from a creation tool USB using your OEM key.
Naturally, you will need to be able to access BIOS to configure boot order!

Apparently you aren't booting from the USB stick. If you were, you wouldn't get the same message. The computer is still trying to boot from the internal hard drive and repair, which fails each time.

I think you need to take it for service since you can't boot from a USB stick to try and fix it yourself.
Tell them to pull the hard drive and get your photos and documents which apparently you don't have a 2nd copy stored elsewhere.
In the future, NEVER keep just one copy of anything that you can't afford to lose on the internal hard drive of any computer.
